Job Description
Roles & Responsibilities
- Inspection and Diagnostics: Regularly inspect diesel engines and hydraulic systems using both manual tools and advanced computer diagnostic software to identify faults, malfunctions, and general wear and tear.
- Repairs and Maintenance: Perform routine servicing, preventative maintenance, and major repairs or overhauls of diesel engines, transmissions, and hydraulic components like pumps, hoists, lifts, and booms.
- System Overhaul: Disassemble, repair, and reassemble major components and systems, including cooling systems, fuel injection systems, brakes, and steering mechanisms.
- Fabrication and Assembly: Utilize welding (MIG, TIG, electric, oxy-fuel) and machining processes to fabricate or replace worn/defective parts.
- Testing and Quality Control: Conduct thorough testing of all repaired and new components to ensure they operate correctly and meet manufacturer specifications and safety standards.
- Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate and detailed records of all maintenance, repairs, parts used, and service reports.
- Field Service: Respond to emergency breakdowns on-site, which may require travel to various industrial or construction locations.
- Safety and Compliance: Adhere to all health, safety, and environmental regulations and procedures (e.g., OSHA standards) at all times.
Desired Candidate Profile
- Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of diesel engine mechanics, electrical systems, and the intricate workings of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Diagnostic Prowess: Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills to quickly and accurately diagnose complex mechanical issues.
- Certifications: Completion of an apprenticeship or technical diploma in diesel fitting, heavy equipment maintenance, or a related field is typically required.
- Physical Stamina: The role is physically demanding, requiring the ability to lift heavy parts, work in confined spaces, and stand for long periods.
- Tool Proficiency: Expertise in using a wide range of hand tools, power tools, specialized diagnostic instruments, and welding equipment.
- Communication: Effective communication skills to collaborate with team members and explain technical issues to management or clients.
