Roles & Responsibilities
As an Optical Technician, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the effective functioning of optical equipment and the satisfaction of patients or clients who rely on optical products or services. Your expertise will contribute to the production and maintenance of eyewear as well as the efficient operation of optometry practices or optical labs. You will be responsible for assembling, fitting, and adjusting eyewear, as well as performing precision measurements required for the correct prescription of eyeglasses or contact lenses. Additionally, Optical Technicians often engage in preparatory tasks such as lens grinding, frame shaping, and collaborating with optometrists to address patients' vision needs. This position requires a blend of technical skills, customer service abilities, and attention to detail to ensure high-quality outputs and improved visual experiences for clients.
Responsibilities
- Assemble and adjust optical frames and lenses according to specifications and prescriptions.
- Perform detailed measurements of customers' eyes for prescription accuracy and lens fitting.
- Manage inventory of optical products and ensure stock levels meet demand at all times.
- Maintain and calibrate optical machinery and equipment to ensure optimal performance.
- Collaborate with optometrists to interpret and execute eyewear prescriptions.
- Conduct quality inspections of optical products to ensure compliance with industry standards.
- Handle customer queries and provide expert recommendations on eyewear options and care.
- Educate clients on proper eyewear usage and maintenance to prolong product lifespan.
- Keep detailed records of customer details and transactions for seamless service operations.
- Assist in training new staff members on standard optical procedures and equipment usage.
- Conduct minor repairs and adjustments on existing eyewear for customers in need.
- Ensure the workspace remains organized and safe, adhering to health and safety protocols.
Requirements
- Proven experience or training as an Optical Technician or similar role in the optical field.
- Strong understanding of optical equipment and the lens production process.
- Excellent hand-eye coordination and detail-oriented skills essential for precision tasks.
- Effective communication abilities to liaise with customers and team members efficiently.
- Ability to manage time effectively and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in using specialized tools and software relevant to optical technology.
- A customer-friendly attitude with a passion for delivering exceptional service.
- Basic understanding of health and safety regulations within an optical setting.
