Roles & Responsibilities
An MEP Estimator plays a critical role in the construction industry, specifically focusing on Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) components of construction projects. This professional is responsible for analyzing project requirements, developing estimates, and preparing bid proposals that encompass the MEP aspects of a project. An MEP Estimator collaborates closely with engineers, architects, project managers, and other stakeholders to ensure accurate cost estimation and budget management. With a strong knowledge of industry standards, building codes, and technological advancements, the MEP Estimator contributes greatly to ensuring project feasibility and profitability. This position demands excellent analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work under tight deadlines while handling multiple projects simultaneously.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate project specifications, drawings, and other documents to prepare cost estimates for MEP systems.
- Collaborate with design engineers, architects, and contractors to accurately assess project requirements.
- Prepare detailed cost analysis sheets and bid proposals for MEP aspects of construction projects.
- Analyze risks associated with project specifics to ensure realistic and competitive bid proposals.
- Maintain an up-to-date database of supplier and subcontractor pricing for accurate estimations.
- Review historical data from previous projects to improve forecasting accuracy and estimate reliability.
- Coordinate with procurement teams to validate cost estimates and budget considerations.
- Engage in continuous communication with clients to address queries and clarify cost-related aspects.
- Ensure all estimates meet established industry and project-specific standards and regulations.
- Regularly update project stakeholders on any changes or updates within the MEP estimation scope.
- Continuously seek opportunities for cost reduction and efficiency improvements in the estimation process.
- Prepare comprehensive and organized presentations of cost estimates for stakeholder review.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, or related field is preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in MEP estimation within the construction industry.
- Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems and their cost impacts.
- Proficiency in estimation software and advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective stakeholder engagement.
- Exceptional analytical and detail-oriented skills with a focus on accuracy in estimations.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting tight deadlines.
- Knowledge of industry standards, local building codes, and regulatory requirements.
- Proven ability to work in a dynamic and fast-paced team environment.
