Job Responsibilities for a Mechanical Engineer: ________________________________________ 1. Design & Engineering • Develop fabrication drawings and 3D models for products such as platforms, frames, tanks, handrails, etc. • Review and interpret client specifications, project drawings, and applicable standards (ASTM, ASME, BS, ISO). • Perform material selection for mild steel, stainless steel, and aluminum based on strength, corrosion resistance, and fabrication feasibility. • Ensure designs are optimized for manufacturability and cost-effectiveness. ________________________________________ 2. Technical Calculations • Perform stress, load, and structural calculations for fabricated components. • Calculate welding allowances, tolerances, and deformation factors. • Estimate cutting lengths, bend allowances, and sheet nesting for laser/CNC work. ________________________________________ 3. Production Coordination • Prepare fabrication method statements and work instructions for workshop teams. • Coordinate with drafting teams, CNC machine operators, welders, and fitters. • Oversee cutting, bending, welding, grinding, and finishing processes. • Ensure correct jig and fixture design for repetitive production. ________________________________________ 4. Quality Control • Inspect incoming raw materials to ensure compliance with specifications. • Check in-process work and final fabricated items for dimensional accuracy and finishing quality. • Ensure welding is in line with WPS (Welding Procedure Specification) and NDT requirements. ________________________________________ 5. Project Management • Plan fabrication schedules to meet project deadlines. • Monitor progress and report deviations to management or clients. • Coordinate with subcontractors for processes like powder coating, PVD, or electroplating. ________________________________________ 6. Safety & Compliance • Implement HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment) standards in the workshop. • Ensure compliance with local UAE regulations and relevant fabrication codes. ________________________________________ 7. Documentation & Reporting • Prepare BOQ (Bill of Quantities) and fabrication cost estimates. • Maintain records of material consumption, wastage, and production timelines. • Prepare as-built drawings after fabrication. ________________________________________ 8. Client & Supplier Interaction • Attend technical meetings with clients to discuss designs and modifications. • Liaise with suppliers for materials, equipment, and outsourced services.
