An assistant editor is required for a dark, absurdist comedy short film blending the high-anxiety energy of Uncut Gems, the hallucinatory montage style of Requiem for a Dream, and the outrageous humor of Big Mouth. The film follows a Latina woman confronting her addictions through surreal, comedic hallucinations, using fast cuts, overlapping dialogue, and moments of awkward silence to build tension and deliver punchlines. The editor will shape the pacing, refine comedic timing, and craft a visually and emotionally dynamic narrative for a festival-ready cut. The project will be edited remotely, with a quick turnaround to meet its screening deadline.

Requirements

• Strong experience editing narrative short films, preferably in comedy or surreal/absurdist genres
• Skilled in high-energy editing, quick-cut montages, and building narrative tension
• Ability to balance explicit humor, emotional beats, and surreal visual elements
• Proficiency in DaVinci Resolve preferred, or other professional editing software
• Comfortable shaping awkward silences and punchlines for comedic effect
• Strong understanding of sound layering and timing to enhance narrative momentum
• Able to work remotely and meet tight deadlines for festival submissions
