Roles & Responsibilities
An Electrical Maintenance Technician is a vital member of an industrial team, responsible for ensuring the reliability and performance of electrical systems and equipment. These professionals work in various settings, including manufacturing plants, commercial buildings, and public utilities, where they play a key role in troubleshooting issues and performing routine maintenance to prevent outages and prolong the life of equipment. The position demands a solid understanding of electrical engineering principles, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to read and interpret technical diagrams and manuals. Electrical Maintenance Technicians must also adhere to strict safety protocols and compliance standards to ensure not only their safety but also that of their coworkers and the facility.
Responsibilities
- Conduct regular inspections and perform maintenance on electrical systems and equipment.
- Diagnose electrical malfunctions using appropriate testing devices and problem-solving skills.
- Repair or replace wiring, equipment, and fixtures using hand and power tools.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical documentation.
- Install, maintain, and troubleshoot programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and drive systems.
- Ensure compliance with electrical codes and safety standards while performing duties.
- Collaborate with mechanical maintenance teams to coordinate multi-disciplinary repairs.
- Document all maintenance activities and repairs in maintenance management software systems.
- Respond quickly to emergency situations, resolving electrical faults and breakdowns promptly.
- Calibrate and test electrical equipment and instruments to ensure proper function.
- Train and mentor junior technicians and apprentices on troubleshooting techniques.
- Maintain an inventory of electrical components and suggest procurement of necessary items.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification or degree preferred.
- Proven experience as an Electrical Maintenance Technician in a similar industry.
- Strong understanding of electrical systems, schematics, and safety standards.
- Hands-on experience with electrical testing instruments like multimeters and oscilloscopes.
- Excellent troubleshooting skills with attention to detail and problem-solving capability.
- Familiarity with PLCs and industrial automation systems is highly advantageous.
- Ability to work autonomously and as part of a collaborative team in high-pressure situations.
