Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Decontaminate surgical instruments and medical devices using specialized equipment, ensuring thorough cleaning and disinfection to prevent infections.
  • Inspect instruments for functionality and integrity, identifying and addressing any damage or wear and tear to maintain surgical safety.
  • Assemble surgical instrument sets according to established protocols and surgical needs, ensuring all necessary items are present and correctly configured.
  • Sterilize instruments and equipment using autoclaves, sterilizers, and other sterilization methods, adhering strictly to sterilization parameters.
  • Monitor and document sterilization cycles and equipment performance, maintaining accurate records to ensure quality control and traceability.
  • Package sterilized items and prepare them for distribution to operating rooms and other departments, maintaining sterility throughout the process.
  • Maintain inventory of surgical instruments and supplies, tracking usage and restocking items to ensure adequate supplies are always available.
  • Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and infection control guidelines, promoting a safe and sterile environment.
  • Operate and maintain CSSD equipment, including autoclaves, washers, and sterilizers, performing routine maintenance and troubleshooting minor issues.

Desired Candidate Profile

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required; completion of a CSSD technician training program is preferred.
  • Certification as a Certified Sterile Processing Technician (CSPDT) or equivalent is highly desirable.
  • Prior experience in a hospital CSSD or sterile processing environment is preferred.
