Roles & Responsibilities

Organizational ContextThe International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) is the world s largest humanitarian organization, with a network of 191-member National Societies (NSs). The overall aim of the IFRC is to inspire, encourage, facilitate, and promote at all times all forms of humanitarian activities by NSs with a view to preventing and alleviating human suffering and thereby contributing to the maintenance and promotion of human dignity and peace in the world. The IFRC works to meet the needs and improve the lives of vulnerable people before, during and after disasters, health emergencies and other crises.IFRC is part of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement (Movement), together with its member National Societies and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). IFRC also adheres to strict child safeguarding principles.The Global Road Safety Partnership (GRSP) (www.grsproadsafety.org) is a hosted programme of the IFRC and is a voluntary association of governments, businesses, and civil society organisations. Both the IFRC and GRSP are headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland. The GRSP has full time staff based in Geneva, Kuala Lumpur and Budapest and a cadre of globally based consultants. The aim of the GRSP s work is to reduce death and serious injuries as a result of road crashes with a focus on low- and middle-income countries.According To The World Health Organization, Road Traffic Injuries Claim More Than 1.35 Million Lives Each Year And Result In Approximately 50 Million Injuries. Low And Middle-income Countries Are Disproportionately Negatively Affected. Globally, Road Traffic Deaths Are The Leading Cause Of Death Among Young People Aged 5 To 29 Years And Can Cost Governments Between 3 And 5% Of GDP. Road Traffic Injuries And Deaths Represent a Manmade Humanitarian Crisis And GRSP/IFRC Are Committed To Evidence-based Interventions To Address This Global Pandemic. GRSP s Work Includes:Carrying out a variety of member and non-member funded road safety projects and research throughout the world but focused primarily in Africa, Asia and Latin America.Managing a Road Safety Grants Programme that supports civil society and Red Cross/Red Crescent National Societies to strengthen legislation and policies that impact on road safety.Undertaking projects in low- and middle- income countries to reduce road crash deaths and serious injuries.Running road policing capacity building and training programmes in multiple cities and countries.Job Purpose(Continued from Organizational Context)In conjunction with Johns Hopkins University International Injury Research Unit, running Global Road Safety and Road Policing Leadership programmes.GRSP s work is funded by members, donors and development banks with one major philanthropy contributing to the Bloomberg Philanthropies Initiative for Global Road Safety (BIGRS) funded by Bloomberg Philanthropies.GRSP s work specifically contributes to meeting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 3.6 - By 2030, halve the number of global deaths and injuries from road traffic crashes and 11.2 By 2030, provide access to safe, affordable, accessible and sustainable transport systems for all, improving road safety, notably by expanding public transport, with special attention to the needs of those in vulnerable situations, women, children, persons with disabilities and older persons. GRSP also contributes to meeting the broader SDG sustainability agenda.Job PurposeThe graphic designer will provide support across all of GRSP s programmes. This support will primarily include designing GRSP technical documents for electronic publication, physical display items and graphic elements.Job Duties And ResponsibilitiesThe graphic designer will work directly with, and at the direction of the GRSP Manager, External Relations and Sustainable Mobility Programming and other GRSP staff as required. The graphic designer will be expected to ensure that all work is delivered against pre-approved timelines and in accordance with GRSP/IFRC digital brand requirements.The key outputs for the graphic designer will include designing:Technical documents for electronic publicationFact sheetsTraining materialsExpert technical reportsRoad safety positioning papersTechnical tools and toolkitsNewsletters and annual reportsPhysical display itemsOrganisational display bannersGraphic elementsInfographicsGraphsData visualizationsEducationRequiredBachelor s degree in relevant field or equivalent experience.ExperienceRequiredA minimum of five years work experience in graphic design.PreferredExperience working with humanitarian organizations.Knowledge, Skills and LanguagesRequiredFluently spoken and written English.Expert proficiency in suitable graphic design programmes, such as InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat.Demonstrated understanding of organizational/corporate branding guidelines.PreferredGood command of another IFRC official language (French, Spanish or Arabic).Expert proficiency in motion graphics and visual effects software, such as Adobe After Effects.Competencies, Values and CommentsApplication Instructions Please submit the application in English only.Please include the following documents in the application:Cover LetterCVAn example of recent work products
