Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

Job Purpose: To drive sales growth, market expansion, and customer acquisition across African markets by developing strong distributor, government, and industrial buyer relationships for traded commodities.

Job Responsibilities:

Sales & Business Development - Develop and execute Africa-focused sales strategy for assigned commodities - Identify and onboard distributors, bulk buyers, traders, and government tenders - Generate and close new business opportunities across East, West, North & Southern Africa - Manage full sales cycle: lead → quotation → negotiation → contract → execution - Achieve annual revenue and margin targets

Market Development - Study country-wise demand, pricing trends, and competition - Identify high-growth African markets (e.g., Nigeria, Kenya, Tanzania, Egypt, Ghana, South Africa) - Participate in trade fairs, buyer–seller meets, and government tenders - Develop long-term channel partnerships

Pricing & Negotiation - Prepare competitive CIF / CFR / FOB pricing - Negotiate contracts considering currency risk, payment terms, and credit exposure - Work closely with procurement and finance teams for margin optimization

Export & Documentation Coordination - Coordinate with logistics for shipping, insurance, and documentation - Ensure compliance with African import regulations, product registrations, and customs - Support LC, DP, DA, advance payment structures

Relationship Management - Maintain strong relationships with importers, distributors, government bodies, PSUs, NGOs, UN agencies (if applicable) - Handle customer escalations and ensure repeat business

Products (Depending on Company) - Agro-commodities: rice, sugar, maize, pulses, edible oils - Fertilizers & raw materials - Industrial & specialty chemicals - Food ingredients & additives - Pharma intermediates / APIs - Metals, minerals, fuels (optional)

Desired Candidate Profile

Experience & Skills - 5–15 years in international commodity sales - Proven Africa market exposure mandatory - Hands-on Africa trader or exporter - Strong network with African importers - Strong B2B international sales capability - Excellent negotiation & relationship management - Knowledge of Africa trade dynamics & payment risks - Ability to work independently in emerging markets

Educational Qualification - Bachelor’s degree (Commerce / Engineering / International Business) - MBA (Sales / International Trade) preferred

Competencies & Traits - Entrepreneurial mindset with execution focus - High commercial and numerical acumen - Strong communication skills (English mandatory; French/Arabic a plus) - Comfortable working independently and across multicultural teams

Ideal Fit - Self-starter with strong business development instincts - Hands-on approach to market penetration and relationship building
