Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

As the Capital Markets Associate at Upstart, you will focus on driving growth of our core and emerging products by securing funding and liquidity from capital market participants. You are eager to learn and energized by working directly with our counterparties and across internal functional areas to deliver on Upstart s capital strategy.

How You ll Make An Impact

  • Support deal execution process, leverage modeling skills, review deal documents, and participate in term negotiations, to facilitate capital markets activities (e.g., asset-backed securities, structured pass-thru securities, credit facilities, forward flow deals, etc.)
  • Own performance monitoring and reporting on our pass thru, securitizations, and financing facilities (e.g., pledging, capital markets takeouts, ongoing reporting)
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders (e.g., legal, operations, data analytics, accounting) to support Upstart s funding and liquidity needs
  • Develop and maintain relationships with external counterparties (e.g., banks, investors, rating agencies)
  • Perform industry research / data analysis and prepare external-facing marketing materials

Position Location - Local team members typically meet in person in the New York, NY or San Mateo, CA office once to three times weekly and work from home the rest of the time.

Time Zone Requirements - This team operates on the East/West Coast time zones.

Travel Requirements - As a digital first company, the majority of your work can be accomplished remotely. The majority of our employees can live and work anywhere in the U.S but are encouraged to to still spend high quality time in-person collaborating via regular onsites. The in-person sessions cadence varies depending on the team and role; most teams meet once or twice per quarter for 2-4 consecutive days at a time. Additionally, you may participate in industry conferences for 2-4 consecutive days 1-3x per year.

What we re looking for:

  • Minimum requirements:
    • 2+ years of relevant experience in capital markets, structured financing, or relevant industry experience
    • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex analyses into clear insights
    • Strong analytical aptitude with keen attention to detail
    • Ability to juggle multiple projects with a roll your sleeves up attitude
    • Embraces speed as a habit with an appetite to learn and problem solve
  • Preferred qualifications:
    • Experience with securitization/structured products reporting, reconciliation, legal documentation, or marketing
    • Cashflow modeling/general proficiency in Excel or other data analysis tools
    • Knowledge of unsecured personal, auto and/or HELOC lending product
    • BA/BS degree in business, finance, economics, or other analytical areas of study
