Job Description
Roles & Responsibilities
Job Overview:
In MENA, we are pioneering digital transformation in oilfield services, integrating AI and advanced analytics into drilling, production, reservoir management, and support functions. As part of this journey, we are seeking an AI Expert to accelerate adoption and create tangible business impact. The AI Expert will spearhead the development and deployment of AI-driven solutions across Weatherford MENA operations. The ideal candidate will combine strong technical AI/ML capabilities with an ability to understand oilfield services challenges and deliver business-relevant solutions. This role requires close collaboration with operations, engineering, IT, and functions teams to ensure AI projects deliver measurable efficiency, cost, safety, and sustainability gains.
Key Responsibilities:
- Partner with operations, engineering, and business stakeholders to identify high-value use cases for AI in drilling, completions, production, functions (finance, supply chain, HR, HSE etc).
- Design, develop, and deploy AI/ML models tailored to oilfield data (e.g., drilling parameters, production logs, equipment telemetry, geoscience data).
- Build and operationalize ML pipelines and LLM-backed solutions (e.g., RAG assistants for engineers, predictive maintenance models, AI copilots for technical workflows).
- Ensure robust data governance, security, and compliance with regional regulations (UAE, Saudi, Algeria, etc.).
- Integrate AI solutions with Weatherford’s digital platforms, field applications and enterprise systems.
- Lead POCs and pilot deployments to demonstrate tangible business outcomes, then scale across MENA operations.
- Train and mentor internal teams to adopt AI tools and develop “citizen AI” capabilities.
- Stay at the forefront of emerging AI technologies (LLMs, generative AI, edge AI) and adapt them to MENA oilfield use cases
Desired Candidate Profile
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or related discipline.
- Proven experience applying AI/ML and data science preferably in industrial or energy domains (oil & gas preferred).
- Strong coding skills in Python; familiarity with FastAPI, PyTorch, LangChain/LangGraph, vector DBs, Docker, CI/CD.
- Hands-on experience with productionizing models and managing MLOps pipelines.
- Ability to analyze and process large time-series and unstructured datasets (logs, images, sensor data).
- Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills; ability to explain AI concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Domain expertise in Oilfield Services is a plus (e.g., drilling optimization, predictive maintenance, production forecasting).
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, or Java.
- Experience with the following tech stack: Python, FastAPI, PyTorch, LangChain/LangGraph, vector DBs (pgvector/FAISS), Docker, CI/CD, Postgres, OpenAI/Anthropic + OSS LLMs, Langfuse, OpenTelemetry.
- Experience with GPU acceleration, model optimization, and edge deployment for field environments.
- Exposure to cloud environments (AWS/Azure/GCP) and hybrid/on-prem deployments.
- Awareness of data privacy, PII handling, and regional compliance requirements.
- Ability to design lightweight UIs (React/TypeScript) for internal users.
- Familiarity with generative AI use cases for technical documentation, knowledge management, and training.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
