Job Description
Roles & Responsibilities
Valve Tester is responsible for the precise testing, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of critical valve systems. The role is part of the plant's mechanical maintenance team, ensuring the safe and reliable operation of the plant's motor-operated valves (MOV) and air-operated valves (AOV).
Position summary
The Valve Tester performs preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on valve systems in accordance with strict nuclear quality and safety procedures. The technician is responsible for both mechanical and diagnostic activities to maintain optimal performance and regulatory compliance. Core duties and responsibilities
• Maintenance and testing:
o Perform diagnostic testing, calibration, and troubleshooting on motor-operated (MOV) and air-operated (AOV) valves.
o Acquire and analyze diagnostic data using specialized systems, such as Viper20 and VOTES Infinity.
o Perform corrective maintenance and refurbishment activities on valve actuators and accessories.
o Conduct surveillance tests to confirm the efficient performance of plant mechanical systems.
• Technical support and documentation:
o Support the Engineering and Operations Departments with technical expertise. o Interpret and revise maintenance procedures, engineering drawings, and manufacturer specifications.
o Thoroughly document all maintenance and testing activities to maintain accurate equipment history reports.
o Issue and revise maintenance procedures for valves and their electrical and pneumatic actuators.
• Compliance and safety:
o Strictly follow all relevant quality assurance (QA), maintenance, and safety procedures. o Comply with nuclear industry codes and standards for valve testing, such as API, IEC, and ISA. o Support plant outages and maintenance periods, which may require working during offhours.
Required qualifications and skills
Desired Candidate Profile
• Education:
o A diploma or certificate in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent technical discipline is required.
• Experience:
o Minimum of 5–7 years of hands-on experience in the Nuclear sector. o Demonstrated experience in testing and calibration of AOVs/MOVs, preferably from specific manufacturers such as Rotork, Biffi, and Dresser.
o Experience in a nuclear and outage-based environment is highly preferred and often essential.
• Technical competencies:
o Strong understanding of P&IDs (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams), wiring diagrams, and valve control logic.
o Proficiency with diagnostic testing equipment like VOTES Infinity and Viper20. o Experience with various electrical and pneumatic actuators.
o Proven troubleshooting skills.
• Workplace skills:
o Ability to work under pressure, especially during plant shutdown or turnaround schedules. o Proficiency with personal computers and wireless equipment.
Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
