Job Purpose - Product Engineering Test Facility Design Technician
The Test Facility Design Technician will support the design, maintenance, and optimization of gas turbine systems and associated test facilities. This role is critical in ensuring the safe, efficient, and accurate testing and commissioning of turbine engines through innovative design solutions, technical support, and cross-functional collaboration.
Key Responsibilities: Design & Development
- Apply the latest design techniques to create and modify drawings for facility jigs, brackets, and ad-hoc tooling.
- Design solutions for mounting and fixing engines in the test facility.
- Ensure high accuracy and attention to detail in all design outputs.
- Use advanced CAD tools and design software to produce high-quality technical drawings.
- Assist in developing protocols for testing and commissioning turbine systems and facility equipment.
- Provide rapid design fixes for issues arising during build, installation, and testing phases.
- Document design adjustments and feed insights back into future iterations.
- Collaborate with engineers and technicians to develop tooling and design solutions.
- Support feasibility studies and review proposed design changes or enhancements.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of engineering solutions.
- Conduct quality checks to ensure designs meet technical and safety standards.
- Maintain adherence to quality control protocols, ensuring completeness and compliance.
- Ensure all designs comply with environmental, health, and safety regulations.
- Integrate safety features into designs, considering ventilation, containment, and emergency access.
- Work closely with all gas turbine technical staff to ensure design alignment and functionality.
- Maintain regular communication with the Test Facility Manager to provide updates on design progress.
- Maintain accurate records of all design work and modifications.
- Ensure documentation is up-to-date and accessible for audits and reviews.
- Proven experience in facility or mechanical design, preferably in a gas turbine or aerospace environment.
- Proficiency in modern CAD software and design packages.
- Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and high standards of accuracy.
- Knowledge of safety protocols and regulatory compliance in engineering environments.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Design Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience in testing and commissioning of mechanical systems.
- Familiarity with gas turbine systems and test facility operations.
