Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

We are seeking a passionate and forward-thinking Teacher of Design Technology to join Mesaieed International School. This is an exciting moment to join us as we strengthen our curriculum to ensure students are equipped not only to make, but to think, innovate, and solve meaningful real-world problems. As a skilled practitioner, you will deliver a curriculum where creative making and critical design thinking go hand in hand. Practical outcomes will be built on rigorous, iterative design processes, enabling students to develop curiosity, resilience, creativity, and strong analytical skills aligned with industry expectations. You will play a key role in modernising our offer across Key Stages 3 5. At KS3, you will lead the development of a coherent curriculum that ensures genuine progression in knowledge, skills, and understanding rather than repeated tasks. You will demonstrate how Design Technology shapes society and enhances lives, while nurturing imagination, exploration, and human-centred innovation as the foundation for success at KS4 and KS5.

Your teaching will maximise learning every lesson through adaptive planning, clear sequencing, and evidence-informed pedagogy. You will help shift our focus from simply finishing the product to deep learning within making, embedding technical knowledge, sustainability principles, digital design tools, and industry-relevant contexts. Collaboration will be central to your role. You will contribute to a faculty culture grounded in continuous improvement, strong subject expertise, and coaching-led professional development. You will seek opportunities to connect learning with authentic design challenges, industry partners, and our wider community to show students that their ideas and solutions really matter. Beyond the workshop, you will enrich school life through clubs, competitions, enterprise initiatives, and opportunities that extend learning beyond the classroom. You will foster a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment where students feel confident to express ideas, take risks, and grow as emerging designers, engineers, and creative problem-solvers.

This is an exciting time to join Mesaieed International School, as we continue to develop a high-performing and collaborative culture rooted in academic excellence and equity. The successful candidate will be determined to make a real difference and embrace the opportunity to teach in a forward-thinking school with exceptional young people.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Outstanding Classroom Practice: Deliver high-quality and engaging Design Technology lessons across KS3 KS5 that champion creativity, problem-solving, innovation, and strong academic and practical outcomes for all learners
  • Adaptive Teaching: Use evidence-informed strategies to scaffold learning within making, ensuring every student, including those with SEND or additional learning needs, can access, enjoy, and excel in iterative design and practical application
  • Assessment and Progress Tracking: Use formative and summative assessment intelligently to monitor technical skill, design thinking, and conceptual understanding, addressing misconceptions and tailoring support to secure sustained improvement
  • Curriculum Development: Contribute to the modernisation of the Design Technology curriculum, ensuring strong sequencing, progression, and alignment with MIS s Framework for Excellence moving beyond repetitive tasks to purposeful, real-world design contexts
  • Co-Curricular Enrichment: Lead and support opportunities that extend DT beyond the workshop, such as design challenges, F1 in Schools, enterprise projects, sustainable innovation, competitions, and partnerships with industry and the local community
  • Collaboration and Professional Development: Engage proactively with colleagues in coaching, CPD, and shared planning to strengthen pedagogical practice, deepen subject expertise, and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement
  • Student Wellbeing and Relationships: Build strong, positive relationships with students, nurturing confidence, resilience, and curiosity, supporting them to take creative risks while maintaining high expectations for conduct and workshop safety
  • Family Engagement: Communicate proactively with families to celebrate achievement, promote safe and supportive participation in practical learning, and ensure every student is empowered to reach their full potential
  • Safeguarding, Inclusion & Workshop Safety: Uphold the highest standards of safeguarding, equity, and health and safety in practical environments, actively identifying barriers to learning and ensuring appropriate support and protective measures are in place

Essential:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
  • Successful experience teaching Design Technology across KS3 KS5
  • Demonstrable success in securing strong academic and practical outcomes, fostering creativity, problem-solving, and a genuine interest in design and innovation
  • Strong understanding of inclusive, adaptive, and evidence-informed practice
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build trusted relationships with students, colleagues, and families
  • Secure subject knowledge, including design processes, materials, technical accuracy, and the capacity to use assessment to drive sustained progress
  • A real commitment to professional growth, reimagining DT, and collaborative improvement through coaching and curriculum development
  • Alignment with MIS s values and drive to contribute actively to school life

Desirable:

  • Experience in delivering Food & Nutrition, CAD/CAM, or another complementary DT discipline
  • Active member of a Design Technology professional community (e.g., D&T Association) or willingness to engage with subject networks and industry partnerships
  • Experience teaching in an international or multicultural school environment
  • Experience supporting learners with diverse needs in practical and design-based contexts
  • A willingness to lead or develop design challenges, enterprise initiatives, industrial links, or enrichment experiences that extend learning beyond the classroom

Desired Candidate Profile

An infectious passion for reimagining Design Technology, creating learning that goes beyond making, inspiring curiosity, innovation, and purposeful problem-solving through rich, contemporary design contexts

An exceptional ability to build strong, trusting relationships with students, staff, and families, developing a safe, disciplined, and ambitious workshop culture rooted in respect, collaboration, and high expectations for all learners

Expertise in high-quality, evidence-informed teaching and assessment, ensuring that making is integrated within structured learning and iterative design processes so every student, regardless of starting point, can access the curriculum and excel

A deep understanding of adolescent development and diverse learner needs, enabling students to take creative risks, refine ideas, and develop personal pride in their achievements

A secure understanding of progression in Design Technology across KS3 KS5, ensuring knowledge, technical skill, and conceptual thinking deepen consistently

A reflective and collaborative approach, contributing to the modernisation of curriculum design and strengthened pedagogical practice, while embracing ongoing professional learning, coaching, and industry connection

Confidence in using data intelligently, from technical accuracy and workshop safety to academic progress and engagement, to refine teaching and maximise outcomes for all learners

A strong commitment to safeguarding, inclusion, and equitable access to safe practical environments, ensuring all students feel known, supported, and empowered to participate fully and succeed

A willingness to extend learning beyond the workshop, promoting human skills such as creativity, resilience, problem-solving, and communication through design challenges, enterprise, competitions, and industrial links

Our school sits at the heart of a kind and welcoming community, operating across three campuses: Secondary, Primary, and EYFS. As a through school, we deliver the National Curriculum for England, IGCSEs and A Levels/BTECs to over 1,200 students aged 3 to 19, representing more than 30 different nationalities.

Our vision is for our students to be high-achieving, healthy, and happy individuals who are well prepared to take their place as global citizens and leaders of the future. Our mission is to achieve this through inspirational teaching that places high value on learning, enjoyment, and the well-being of every student. MIS is proud to have achieved the highest level of accreditation from the Qatar National School Accreditation (QNSA), demonstrating both the strength of our provision and our commitment to continuous improvement.

Our students benefit from a culture of high expectations and strong pastoral support, reflecting excellent academic outcomes. In 2024 to 2025, 54% of IGCSE grades were 9 to 7 (86% at 9 to 4), with exceptional value-added progress of +1.0 at GCSE and +0.3 at A Level. Our A Level results exceeded UK national averages, showcasing the impact of an ambitious curriculum, expert teaching, and assessment practices that help every learner exceed their potential.

We are committed to nurturing a culture of excellence in which both pupils and staff can flourish and strive to be the very best they can. A dedication to refining our teaching craft sits at the heart of our work at MIS, alongside our commitment to developing a world-class curriculum that is rigorous, ambitious, and rooted in deep subject expertise. We are passionate about growth, improving through thoughtful reflection, deliberate practice, and shared professional learning, and we believe strongly in the power of teamwork, knowing that we achieve far more together than alone. Teachers at MIS are committed to ongoing professional development and maintaining exceptional classroom practice; all staff play an active role in our busy pastoral system; and consistently high standards of student progress and attainment are expected. In addition, every colleague contributes to our co-curricular programme. For these reasons, MIS is a truly special place to work. The rewards are considerable: motivated, respectful, and eager to learn students, and opportunities to develop professional expertise through high quality CPD.

This is an exciting time to join the school. We have recently embarked on a whole school improvement journey, guided by our Framework for Excellence, and we warmly invite motivated professionals to help shape our future as we strive to become amongst the very best schools in the world.
