Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

Specialist Rheumatologist is responsible for diagnosing, treating, and managing patients with rheumatic diseases, which affect
the joints, muscles, and bones. The role involves conducting thorough assessments, developing treatment plans, and providing
ongoing care to improve patient outcomes. The Specialist Rheumatologist works closely with other healthcare professionals to
deliver comprehensive care.

  • Conduct detailed medical histories and physical examinations to diagnose rheumatic diseases.
  • Interpret laboratory tests, imaging studies (X-rays, MRIs, ultrasounds), and other diagnostic tools to identify specific rheumatic
  • conditions.
  • Evaluate and monitor disease progression and treatment efficacy.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans based on the diagnosis, considering patient preferences and comorbidities.
  • Prescribe medications such as NSAIDs, DMARDs, biologics, and corticosteroids.
  • Administer joint injections and other therapeutic procedures as needed.
  • Recommend lifestyle changes, physical therapy, and other non-pharmacological interventions.
  • Monitor and manage chronic conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, gout, osteoarthritis, and fibromyalgia.
  • Provide education and counseling to patients and their families about the disease process, treatment options, and self-
  • management strategies.
  • Coordinate with other specialists, such as orthopedists, dermatologists, and nephrologists, for comprehensive care.
  • Work closely with primary care physicians and other healthcare professionals to ensure a multidisciplinary approach to patient
  • care.
  • Participate in case discussions, grand rounds, and other educational activities.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team regarding treatment plans and expectations.
  • Stay updated with the latest research and advancements in rheumatology.
  • Ensure adherence to clinical guidelines, protocols, and ethical standards.

Medical degree (MD or equivalent) from an accredited institution. b. Board certification or eligibility in Rheumatology. c. Completion of a residency in Internal Medicine and a fellowship in Rheumatology.
