Job Description

Join our dynamic team at Canonical as a Software Engineer specializing in Packaging. As a part of the company renowned for developing the Ubuntu operating system, you will play a crucial role in ensuring that software is seamlessly integrated and deployed within our systems. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to build, maintain, and improve packaging processes crucial for open-source software distribution. Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain packaging solutions for Canonical's software products.
  • Collaborate with development teams to integrate software updates smoothly.
  • Ensure software packages are compliant with company standards and policies.
  • Work with the Continuous Integration team to automate package deployment.
  • Analyze and resolve packaging issues and provide comprehensive documentation.
  • Test and validate packages on various system configurations and architectures.
  • Contribute to the design and review of software packaging specifications.
  • Assist in the release management and distribution of software packages.
  • Engage in community discussions and contribute to open-source project forums.
  • Deploy tools and scripts to streamline automated packaging processes.
  • Monitor and review package security, providing timely updates and patches.
  • Train and guide junior engineers on packaging best practices and methodologies.

Requirements
  • Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong experience with Debian packaging and distribution processes.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages like Bash, Python, or Perl.
  • Familiarity with version control systems, especially Git and Launchpad.
  • Experience with Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment pipelines.
  • Strong problem-solving skills to diagnose and address software packaging issues.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for technical documentation.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional, multicultural teams.
  • Experience contributing to or managing open-source software projects is desirable.
