Main Purpose of the Job

The main purpose of Senior Technician-HVAC is to install, maintain, and repair heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. This includes troubleshooting and diagnosing of problems, as well as performing preventive maintenance and prescribed advanced tests to ensure that the equipment in the buildings is operating properly according to established specifications.

Main Competencies required for the Position

Technical skills:

Must have a strong theoretical and practical understanding of the principles of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. They must be able to read and understand HVAC schematics and manuals, psychrometric charts and refrigerant charts. They must also be able to use the proper tools and equipment, and understand HVAC controls and can operate BMS

Problem-solving skills:

Must be able to troubleshoot and diagnose HVAC problems via traditional ways and through NDT testing if need to. They must be able to identify the source of the problem and make repairs in a safe and efficient manner.

Communication skills:

Must be able to communicate effectively with other members of the team, such as engineers, technicians, and operators. They must be able to share information and collaborate on projects.

Attention to Detail:

Must be able to pay attention to detail and follow safety procedures precisely.

Safety skills:

Must be aware of the safety hazards associated with HVAC work. They must be able to follow safety procedures and ensure that their team does the same. They must be aware of refrigerant reclaiming and storage procedures

Customer service skills:

Must be able to provide excellent customer service. They must be able to answer customer questions, troubleshoot problems, and resolve issues in a timely and professional manner.

Main Duties / Responsibilities

-Report to the HVAC Supervisor or engineer on site or to the Hard Services/MEP Supervisor.

-Install, maintain, and repair heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems.

-Troubleshoot and diagnose HVAC problems including electronic and mechanical components.

-Conserve, store and recycle CFC and HCFC (Chlorofluorocarbon family) refrigerants

-Repair or replace the sensors or instruments, as needed which includes re-wiring and tubing.

-Perform preventive maintenance on HVAC systems.

-Identify the required spare parts and promptly request them from supervisor

-Test and calibrate the systems to ensure accuracy and functionality

-Monitor the additional services done by subcontractors & third parties

-Timely Close the assigned work orders on MAXIMO and log the required details.

-Inspect, test & snag the HVAC systems and log the issues on Aconex or similar softwares at site.

-Maintain detailed records and history logs of maintenance activities and equipment status.

-Senior Technician HVAC Mentor and provide support to the he regular HVAC technicians

-Ensure that PTWs, RAMS, LOTO and Energy Isolation Procedures are strictly adhered

-Communicate with other members of the team, such as engineers, technicians, and operators.

-Respond to the reported breakdowns promptly and troubleshoot and resolve the faults efficiently

Minimum qualifications / educational levels required for this position

-Diploma or Degree in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning

-Diploma or Degree in Mechanical or Electromechanical engineering in addition to a recognized certificate in HVAC and Refrigeration.

Selection Criteria

-Good command of English both written and spoken.

-Ability to install, maintain, and repair HVAC systems (both chilled water and DX systems), CAV/VAV systems, Heat Recovery, AHU & FCU systems, packaged units, splits, evaporative coolers

-Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose HVAC problems

-Working knowledge of BMS systems and HVAC controls is an advantage.

-Working Knowledge of MAXIMO, CAFM and ACONEX is an advantage.

-Familiarity with relevant codes, regulations, and safety standards

-Ability to read and understand HVAC control schematics and manuals

-Ability to work independently and as part of a team

-Ability to handle multiple tasks

-Physical fitness and ability to perform manual tasks related to HVAC maintenance.

-Good computer skills.
