Job Description
Roles & Responsibilities
Overseeing the implementation and monitoring of continuous improvement of environmental management practices within the Salalah Free Zone, ensuring full compliance with national regulations, international standards, and the company's sustainability goals. This role's responsibilities include monitoring environmental performance, supporting operational teams in integrating environmental best practices, and providing expertise in audits, reporting, and policy development, with the goal of protecting environmental integrity.
Main responsibilities
Operational management :
Develop, implement and monitor environmental programmes across the free zone, including waste management, emissions, energy use, water conservation, biodiversity initiatives, and Public Establishment for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones decisions .Ensure compliance with Omani environmental regulations, free zone policies, and international standards such as ISO 14001.Oversee the process of issuing environmental permits to tenants and projects, ensuring timely review, submission and renewal of all required environmental permits and licenses .Review and supervise permit and license applications to ensure their completeness, accuracy, and compliance with legal and regulatory requirements before submitting them to the relevant authorities .Review environmental impact assessments submitted by tenants or project developers to ensure their adequacy, compliance with national guidelines, and effectiveness in mitigating environmental risks .Review and follow up on the implementation of environmental management system procedures within the free zone, ensuring compliance with the international environmental management system standard and continuous improvement requirements .Providing technical guidance to operations and tenants on environmental requirements, permits, and mitigation of environmental impacts .Monitor and report environmental performance indicators, identify areas for improvement, and propose corrective actions .
Communication and Reports :
Preparing periodic environmental reports for internal management, regulatory bodies and external stakeholders .Act as a point of contact for communication with government entities (such as the Public Corporation for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones, and the Environment Agency) and free zone tenants on environmental issues .Raising awareness among employees and tenants through workshops, campaigns, and training sessions on environmental sustainability .
Audits and field visits :
Conducting periodic on-site inspections and reviews within the free zone to assess compliance with environmental regulations and policies .Documenting findings, preparing audit reports, and following up on corrective action plans with tenants and internal departments .Supporting external audits and inspections carried out by regulatory bodies or accreditation bodies .
Policies :
Review, update and develop environmental management policies, guidelines and standard operating procedures in line with regulatory changes and best practices .Ensure the integration of environmental considerations into the development, construction and operation of free zone projects .Contributing to sustainability initiatives and achieving carbon neutrality by aligning policies with national and international commitments .
Emergency and Accident Management :
Act as an environmental point of contact during incidents such as chemical spills or waste discharges .Develop and maintain environmental emergency response procedures in coordination with the Health, Safety and Environment Department .Conduct training to ensure tenants and internal teams are prepared to manage environmental emergencies .
Emergency requests :
Providing specialized expertise on environmental issues for new projects, expansions, investments, or special tenant needs .Support the management of crises or incidents related to environmental affairs such as spills or emissions exceedances .Respond to inquiries from management, tenants, or regulatory authorities requiring environmental assessments, advice, or approvals .Perform additional tasks in line with the current role as requested by the direct manager .
Qualifications, experience and skills
Qualifications :
Bachelor's degree in a related field or any related major. Accredited professional certifications in health, safety, and the environment.
Experiences :
At least 5 years of experience in a related field
