Roles & Responsibilities
JOB PURPOSE:
The purpose of this role is to assist the SHE Manager in ensuring the health, safety and wellbeing of employees, customers, contractors and members of the public in the work place. The Senior SHE Professional will develop and implement the Safety, Health & Environment Management system in BAE Systems SDT, ensuring compliance with all regulatory safety requirements in practice. Provide guidance and support to BAE Systems SDT management on the implementation of all SHE processes and procedures that will ensure SHE compliance across the business areas.
Responsibilities
The Senior SHE Professional will:
- Develop, review, and maintain SHE Standards, policies and procedures and arrangements within the QMS to meet business requirements.
- Develop, maintain and ensure delivery of the SHE Management System across the business incorporating SHE requirements to meet the needs of the business and to ISO 45001 standards (and OSHAS 18001).
- Audit the status of compliance of SHE arrangements to the relevant SHE Standards.
- Support the SHE Manager in the production of the company s SHE Assurance Report (KPIs)
- Support and contribute to the development of functional (HR/Commercial/Finance/Facilities, etc.) processes and procedures to capture and deliver the SHE requirements as detailed in the SHE policy.
- Develop and deliver SHE relevant courses as per the mandatory requirements to members of BAES SDT staff.
- Assist in the attainment and maintenance of relevant international standards as set by the business e.g. ISO 45001 and ISO 18001.
- Monitor, review and report on SHE performance, including reporting and analysis of accidents, incidents, inspections and audits.
- Liaise with internal and external Regulators/Authorities/BAESSA on behalf of the business on all safety related requirements/issues.
- Report and carry out where required, investigation of lost time/accidents, dangerous occurrences, fires, pollution and environmental incidents.
- Set SHE improvement targets for the Business and align the Safety Management System Accordingly
- Collect and collate SHE statistical information for inclusion in monthly reports.
- Review SHE statistics and ensure all trends, known and emerging, have corrective action plans in place to address.
- Provide advice and assistance across the business on general safety matters that arise.
- Maintain up to date knowledge on industry SHE best practices and communicate these through the organisation.
Job Requirements:
CRITICAL:
- Must have a developed understanding of SHE and hold a recognised Diploma in Occupation Health and Safety (Level 6) or equivalent which would provide membership to IOSH.
- Must have a minimum of five years post qualification experience preferably gained in a large organisation in a similar role that would ensure the post holder has the breadth of knowledge toprovide competent advice.
- A formal First Aid and general training qualification is essential as is the ability to produce and deliver SHE training programmes and ensure that the training meets its needs.
- Must have technical knowledge at a suitable level to enable support to all aspects of the business, providing advice, guidance and support on SHE requirements, obligations and liabilities.
- Able to influence and facilitate the business in selecting and implementing appropriate SHE solutions.
- Experienced in developing SHE Management and SHE Risk Management Systems requirements at business level.
- Extensive experience of SHE Risk Assessments and Management, COSHH assessments and continuous improvement.
- Extensive experience of the audit, inspection, check, monitoring and review cycles.
- Preparation and delivery of business level assurance reports.
- Experience of incident investigations and application of techniques and tools including root cause analysis and witness interviewing. Experience of event reporting.
- The Senior SHE Professional is required to maintain SHE records and prepare reports for BAE Systems SDT Managers as required.
Desired Candidate Profile
