Roles & Responsibilities

Core responsibilities

  • Strategic sourcing: Develop and execute procurement strategies for complex, high-value contracts. This involves conducting market research to identify potential suppliers and subcontractors, assessing their capabilities, and evaluating risks in the supply chain.
  • Supplier management: Build and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers and subcontractors. This includes managing negotiations for price and contract terms, assessing vendor performance through regular reviews and audits, and resolving complex issues.
  • Technical analysis and compliance: Review technical specifications, engineering drawings, and bills of materials (BOMs) to ensure that all purchased goods and services meet project requirements and industry standards. The senior engineer also verifies compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
  • Cost and budget management: Drive cost-reduction initiatives through effective negotiation and process improvement, provide cost estimations for proposals, monitor procurement budgets, and track spending to ensure cost-effectiveness for projects.
  • Process and project leadership: Oversee the entire procurement life cycle, from requisition to delivery and payment. For complex projects, manage the entire procurement for a bill of materials (BOM).
  • Risk management: Identify and mitigate risks related to the supply chain, such as potential shortages, delivery delays, or supplier performance issues.

Essential skills and qualifications

  • Experience: A minimum of 10 years of experience in procurement or supply chain management, often within a construction and civil contracting company
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in engineering, supply chain management.
  • Technical expertise: The ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and project documents.
  • Negotiation skills: Advanced skills in negotiating contracts, terms, and pricing with vendors.
  • Software proficiency: Experience with ERP systems (such as SAP ) and Microsoft excel, Primavera
  • Analytical skills: Strong ability to analyse data, evaluate supplier proposals, and track key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills for managing stakeholders and supplier relationships.
  • Leadership abilities: The capacity to lead projects, mentor junior staff, and drive strategic initiatives.
