Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Security and Compliance: A primary responsibility is to implement and enforce strict security protocols to protect sensitive financial data. This involves user access management, data encryption, auditing, and ensuring compliance with industry-specific regulations like PCI DSS.
  • High Availability and Disaster Recovery: Fintech platforms cannot afford downtime. The DBA is responsible for architecting and managing high-availability solutions like Oracle RAC (Real Application Clusters) and Data Guard to ensure continuous operation and minimize the risk of data loss. They must also develop and test disaster recovery plans regularly.
  • Performance Tuning and Optimization: Fintech applications often process a high volume of transactions in real-time. The DBA must proactively monitor, analyze, and optimize database performance. This includes tuning complex SQL queries, managing resource usage (CPU, I/O, storage), and using tools like AWR and ASH to identify and resolve bottlenecks.
  • Database Management: This includes the standard duties of an Oracle DBA, but with a fintech focus. They must install, configure, patch, and upgrade Oracle database servers. They also manage database backups, recovery, and storage to ensure data integrity and availability.
  • Collaboration: The DBA in a fintech environment works closely with software developers and DevOps engineers to optimize database design, schema changes, and application queries. They provide guidance on best practices for data modeling and query optimization to ensure applications run efficiently and securely.

Desired Candidate Profile

  • Experience with Oracle Ecosystem: In-depth knowledge of Oracle database versions (11g, 12c, 19c) and related technologies like Oracle RAC, Data Guard, ASM (Automatic Storage Management), and RMAN (Recovery Manager) is essential. Experience with Oracle GoldenGate for real-time data replication is also highly valued.
  • Security Expertise: A strong background in database security, including user management, auditing, and encryption (e.g., Transparent Data Encryption), is critical for handling financial data.
  • Scripting and Automation: Proficiency in scripting languages like Shell, Python, or Perl to automate routine database tasks, such as backups, monitoring, and patch management.
  • Cloud Experience: As many fintech companies move to the cloud, experience with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), Amazon Web Services (AWS), or Azure, particularly with managing Oracle databases in these environments, is a significant advantage.
  • Problem-Solving: The ability to troubleshoot complex database issues under pressure is a must, given the high-stakes nature of financial transactions.
