Roles & Responsibilities
The College of Islamic Studies (CIS) provides a unique platform that contributes to critical intellectual debates on Islam in a global context, through its blended academic programs and an immersive learning experience; as well as its distinguished research division, which includes several research centers and clusters.
The Research Center for Islamic Legislation & Ethics (CILE) stands as a pioneering and distinctive institution globally, specializing in Islamic Ethics. Known for its academic leadership and international collaborations, CILE has led numerous research initiatives and organized major conferences worldwide. In partnership with Brill, a leading publisher in Islamic Studies, CILE also founded the Scopus-indexed Journal of Islamic Ethics and the book series Studies in Islamic Ethics.
HBKU s College of Islamic Studies (CIS) is inviting applications for the position of Research Program Manager for the Research Center for Islamic Legislation & Ethics (CILE). The successful candidate will manage and oversee the research activities of the Research Center for Islamic Legislation and Ethics (CILE), ensuring they align with the strategic goals of the College of Islamic Studies (CIS) and HBKU. The role supports the development and delivery of research projects, publications, and initiatives while promoting collaboration and operational efficiency.
- Ensure the continuity and quality of CILE s research outputs, including the Journal of Islamic Ethics, Studies in Islamic Ethics book series, and other publications. Oversee the management and delivery of funded research projects
- Lead the development and implementation of long-term research strategies in alignment with institutional priorities and academic trends. Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to maintain alignment and communicate progress
- Provide strategic and operational support to the International Islamic Bioethics Initiative (IIBA) and contribute to the development and execution of its programs
- Oversee the planning and execution of CILE activities, including research seminars, conferences, and seasonal schools, aimed at strengthening CILE s network of scholars in the field of Islamic Ethics.
- Manage and coordinate CILE s operations, collaborating with internal departments and external partners to ensure effective delivery of activity plans
- Develop and maintain research governance frameworks, including compliance with ethical standards, intellectual property protection, and risk mitigation
- Collaborate with CIS and relevant university and institutional communication and outreach teams to support and guide CILE s communication efforts, including website content, social media.
- Compile and analyze data related to strategic plans, KPIs, and Center performance; support reporting requirements during planning cycles
- Oversee operational activities, ensuring optimal use of financial, human, and material resources in support of CILE s mission and goals
- Prepare and maintain periodic reports required for tracking research progress and supporting strategic decision-making
- Support research teams by encouraging collaboration, facilitating communication, and guiding task allocation
- Support in identifying funding opportunities and preparing grant proposals. Ensure research-related reporting is submitted in line with funding and institutional requirements.
- Guide the evaluation of research outcomes and impact through appropriate tools and data analysis, ensuring academic rigor and quality.
- Other reasonable tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
- Bachelor s degree; specialization in business administration, Islamic Studies, Ethics, Applied Sciences, or a related field is preferred
- Extensive relevant full-time experience, ideally amounting to 8 10 years, including a proven track record in supervisory or managerial roles preferably within an academic or research institution
- Proven familiarity with Islamic ethics and contemporary global challenges; academic or professional experience in Islamic Studies is highly desirable
- Proficiency in English; Arabic proficiency is a major advantage
- Excellent writing skills with the ability to draft and edit a variety of written reports and communications and to articulate ideas clearly and concisely
- Thorough knowledge of business operations, finance, and research principles and practices, preferably in a university setting
- Strong financial, communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Proven experience in program or research management
- Proficiency in MS Office applications
- Ensure the effective execution and continuity of CILE s research outputs, including the Journal of Islamic Ethics, the Studies in Islamic Ethics book series, and individual publications by affiliated faculty and researchers.
- Ability to oversee the management and delivery of funded research projects and their associated outcomes.
- Strong Research background, attention to detail, analytical capability, and professional judgment are required.
- Administrative and operational background.
