Job Purpose:
The Mechanical Inspector ensures that all mechanical equipment, fabrication, and assembly activities comply with approved codes, standards, specifications, and project requirements through independent inspection and verification.
Key Responsibilities:
- Carry out inspection and surveillance of mechanical fabrication, assembly, and testing activities at vendor workshops, construction sites, or fabrication yards.
- Review and verify vendor quality documentation (e.g., ITP, WPS/PQR, material certificates, inspection reports).
- Inspect materials, components, and equipment for compliance with drawings, standards (ASME, API, ASTM), and client specifications.
- Witness and/or perform dimensional checks, pressure tests, functional tests, and mechanical run tests for equipment such as pumps, valves, piping, pressure vessels, and rotating machinery.
- Monitor welding activities, verify welder qualifications, and ensure welding processes comply with approved procedures.
- Oversee NDT activities (RT, UT, MT, PT) and review test reports for compliance.
- Identify non-conformities, issue NCRs, and verify corrective actions.
- Prepare daily, weekly, and final inspection reports and submit them to the client.
- Ensure that all inspections are carried out in accordance with HSE requirements and company procedures.
- Liaise with vendors, clients, and QA/QC teams to resolve quality issues and ensure timely delivery of inspected items.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Diploma/Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent technical qualification.
- Minimum 3 to 5 years of experience as a Mechanical Inspector in oil & gas, petrochemical, or heavy fabrication projects.
- CSWIP 3.1 or AWS-CWI welding inspection certification.
- Bgas / NACE Certification.
- ASNT/PCN NDT Level II in UT, MT, PT, RT (minimum 2 methods preferred).
- Knowledge of relevant standards and codes (ASME, API, ASTM, AWS).
- Experience in vendor inspection, pressure equipment, piping, and rotating equipment.
- Strong report-writing skills and ability to interpret technical drawings and documents.
