Role Requirements
Skills & Competencies:
• Excellent situational awareness and ability to make decisions under pressure.
• Fluent in English (spoken and written); Arabic is an advantage.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and security systems software (e.g. VMS, access control, incident management platforms).
• Ability to work in high-pressure environments and respond to dynamic threat scenarios.
Essential Requirements:
• Minimum of 5 years of service in a Military or Police unit
• Satisfactory completion of a formal Close Protection training course conducted by an SIA-approved training organisation (or another national equivalent).
• In possession of a current SIA Close Protection License or national equivalent.
• In possession of a valid certificate of qualification in First Aid (FREC /FPOS-I Level 3 / MIRA) having completed a training programme and qualified for the award with an Edexcel approved provider
• Current and valid UK or Internationals C or C1 Driver s license (for B6 vehicles) or equivalent
• Satisfactory completion of a criminal record check within the recent 6 months.
Desirable:
• Familiarity with Iraqi operational terrain and threat landscape.
• Experience with advanced surveillance detection and counter-surveillance techniques.
• Familiarity with multi-lingual communication or experience working in multinational security environments.
Services
Services provided by the contractor shall include, but are not limited to, the provision of close protection and personal security services for designated high-risk individuals, including VIPs, senior personnel, and clients within and around Balad, Iraq. The Personal Protection Officer (PPO) is responsible for maintaining constant vigilance and tactical awareness to ensure the safety and security of individuals during all movements and engagements. Services the contractor can expect to carry out, but are not limited to, are as follows:
• Provide close protection services during transit, stationary periods, and in all operational environments, maintaining full situational awareness.
• Conduct comprehensive threat assessments and perform advance reconnaissance of routes, locations, and venues prior to individual movements or events.
• Plan and coordinate secure transportation arrangements, liaising with other security teams, drivers, and local authorities as necessary.
• Monitor and control access to individuals, manage crowd dynamics, and identify potential risks or suspicious activities proactively.
• Maintain physical readiness and proficiency in defensive tactics, firearms (where authorized), and emergency medical procedures.
• Respond promptly and effectively to security incidents, threats, or emergencies, employing de-escalation techniques or authorized force when appropriate.
• Liaise closely with clients, security management, and local law enforcement to maintain updated situational awareness and implement risk mitigation measures.
• Keep accurate and detailed records of daily activities, incidents, and any security-related concerns involving individuals.
• Adhere strictly to all client protocols, base security regulations, and operational Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
• Participate in ongoing training, drills, and fitness programs to maintain operational effectiveness and readiness.
• Undertaking any other direction or reasonable request given by appropriate GardaWorld Management team in accordance with GW Standard Operating Procedures and Guidelines.
This service is critical to ensuring the personal safety of high-risk individuals at Balad, Iraq, contributing directly to the overall security posture and operational success on site.
