The German University in Cairo invites applications for vacancies to be filled effective September 2025.
Description:
We invite applications for a full-time faculty position in the Architecture and Urban Design Department. The department adopts an integrative approach to urban design, emphasizing the complexities of urban contexts and the dynamics of urban development. Our curriculum includes a diverse range of courses, from design studios and the history and theory of architecture to urban economics, sociology, and planning. Sustainability and resilience are at the core of our research and teaching philosophy, addressing both local and global architectural and urban challenges.
The successful candidate will have expertise in large-scale urban planning, master planning, and the development of cities and towns. We are particularly interested in applicants with a proven track record in addressing climate change, sustainability initiatives, and the unique environmental challenges of the MENA region, including water and resource management, mobility, and social and economic development.
Candidates that bring experience in landscaping in the urban context would be of further great interest to us.
Key Responsibilities:
Teach and Lead Design Studios: Develop and lead design studios focused on large-scale urban challenges, integrating local contexts, cultural narratives, and environmental considerations to propose sustainable urban solutions.
Develop and Teach Advanced Courses: Offer elective courses on specialized urban design topics at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
Supervise Research: Guide bachelor s, master s, and Ph.D. theses in architecture and urban design.
Research and Collaboration: Initiate and conduct innovative research activities, contributing to the department s research profile on sustainability and urban resilience. Engage in interdisciplinary collaboration with other departments and both national and international institutions.
Curriculum Development: Contribute to the ongoing development and enhancement of the architecture and urban design curriculum.
Qualifications:
A Ph.D. in Architecture, Urban Studies, or a related field would be welcomed.
Proven ability to lead design studios focused on urban scale challenges.
Substantial practical experience in urban design and master planning.
Strong research portfolio with publications related to urban sustainability, climate resilience, or large-scale urban planning.
Excellent communication skills and proficiency in English, as it is the language of instruction.
A commitment to engaging with the unique environmental, social, and economic contexts of the MENA region.
