Roles & Responsibilities
The role of a Procurement Engineer is vital in bridging the technical expertise of engineering with the strategic responsibilities of procurement. This position is responsible for ensuring that the organization's purchasing process is efficient, cost-effective, and meets the quality standards necessary for production. The Procurement Engineer works closely with suppliers to negotiate contracts and manage relationships, ensuring that materials and services are delivered on time and according to specifications. A successful candidate will exhibit strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and an ability to collaborate across interdisciplinary teams. As the link between suppliers and internal teams, the Procurement Engineer plays a crucial role in assessing supplier capabilities, implementing strategic sourcing initiatives, and managing the supply chain to optimize costs and innovation.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement procurement strategies that align with business objectives and production needs.
- Evaluate and select suppliers based on quality, price, service, support, and reliability criteria.
- Negotiate terms of contracts with suppliers to secure advantageous outcomes for the company.
- Monitor and assess vendor performance to ensure contract compliance and quality standards.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to understand technical requirements and align procurement initiatives accordingly.
- Identify cost savings opportunities within existing supplier agreements and propose strategic alternatives.
- Manage supplier relationships to foster ongoing development and ensure alignment with organizational goals.
- Analyze market trends and assess risks to proactively address supply chain challenges.
- Prepare and maintain accurate procurement documentation and reports for internal use and audits.
- Coordinate with logistics, finance, and production teams to ensure seamless operations and inventory management.
- Oversee the procurement process to ensure timely delivery of materials and adherence to project timelines.
- Implement sustainable procurement practices to promote resource efficiency and environmental responsibility.
Requirements
- Bachelor s degree in engineering, supply chain management, or a related field.
- Proven experience as a procurement engineer or in a similar supply chain role.
- Strong negotiation skills with a history of achieving excellent supplier agreements.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities for strategic sourcing and planning.
- Proficiency in procurement software and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.
- Strong communication skills to interact effectively with vendors and internal teams.
- Detail-oriented mindset with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Professional certification in procurement or supply chain management is a plus.
