Job Description
Roles & Responsibilities
The Principal Telecoms Engineer will be responsible for:
- Ensures Wood and Client Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality procedures are followed and that a high standard of safety is achieved in all associated work.
- To execute engineering Design, FEED and detail Engineering experience and Costing estimation for proposal in Telecom systems
- Provide discipline input to scope definition and execution.
- Responsible for complete engineering document activities like preparing block diagram, functional design specification, datasheets, MR, equipment layouts, interconnection drawings, termination drawings, cabinet drawings.
- Develop specifications and prepare material requisitions for Telecoms systems.
- Take part in technical bid evaluations, Vendor document reviews and approvals.
- Management of third-party suppliers in the execution of engineering delivery
- Prepares and develops material take off
- Participates in project reviews, design reviews, audits and other workshops as required.
- Completion of site surveys and data gathering for onshore/offshore brownfield scopes of work, taking responsibility for development of the site survey report
- Assess progress and procedure associated reports and input to the progress measurement system. Derive and suggest plans to recover slippage, correct inefficiency and to take any resulting agreed actions.
- Supporting and supervising tasks delegated.
- Adhere to and comply with relevant discipline specific procedures and provide feedback for continuous improvement.
- Ensure self-awareness of relevant regulatory framework, legislation changes, initiatives and industry technology developments
- Participate in audits and incident investigations as required.
- Coaching and mentoring as delegated
- Supervision of less experienced Engineers
- Provides input to the performance management of any direct reports.
- Technically competent in own discipline and actively maintains own competence according to standards and pursues continuous professional development.
- Takes a proactive approach to personal & professional development.
Reflecting the market focus for the office in both brownfield and green field opportunities, multi-skilled personnel are sought, in particular those with experience in:
Onshore Oil and Gas
Offshore Oil and Gas
Desired Candidate Profile
Minimum of 15 years' experience in IT / Telecom field including Security & Safety, wired & wireless communication in Oil & Gas Projects and extensive knowledge in LAN & WAN, ACS, UHF/VHF Radio, CCTV, FOC, IDS, PAGA, Hotline systems, Fire Alarm and IP telephone etc.
MSc, MEng or equivalent professional qualification or BSc, BEng or equivalent with extensive relevant experience
Chartered Engineer or recognized equivalent experience preferred.
Demonstrable balance of industrial experience at relevant level and position
Ideally the candidate will be enrolled on the Register of Engineers in the State of Qatar is desirable, as a minimum the candidate must be willing and able to progress registration.
Experience of working in a variety of projects and phases, including greenfield and brownfield, on and offshore, Pre-FEED through to EPC, with a focus on offshore upstream.
Ideally has experience with Qatar O&G customer design standards including Shell DEPs
Experience with management of vendors, able to complete Technical Bid Evaluations and oversee development of vendor scope.
A self-motivated, proactive individual with high achievement drive and initiative, excellent verbal and written communication skills and good organizational awareness
Ability to impact and influence fellow workers.
Display analytical and innovation skills to manage new technology.
Applicants are required to:
- Be a self-motivated, proactive individual with high achievement drive and initiative, excellent verbal and written communication skills and good organizational awareness
- Confidently deliver assigned scopes of work independently / remotely from technical leadership personnel, with minimal guidance and direction
- Have demonstrable experience of working within a small project office, supporting cross discipline activities beyond their core discipline
- Be willing and able to represent Wood in both onshore and offshore surveys, holding relevant certification or willing to undertake suitable training such as BOSIET and H2S Awareness
- Demonstrate a competent level of written and spoken communication skills in the English language.
