Planning Engineer (Scheduler)

Key Roles & Responsibilities

Project Planning

• Develop the baseline schedule for engineering, procurement, construction, testing, and commissioning activities in coordination with project stakeholders.
• Break down project scope into Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) and align with cost codes and deliverables.
• Ensure planning is aligned with contract requirements, milestones, and client deliverables.
  

Scheduling

• Prepare detailed schedules using Primavera P6 / MS Project, covering all project phases.
• Allocate resources (manpower, equipment, materials) to activities and optimize utilization.
• Regularly update schedules to reflect actual progress, delays, and changes.
• Identify critical path, near-critical activities, and float, and highlight risks to project delivery.
• Conduct what-if scenario analyses to assess impact of variations, delays, or acceleration plans.
  

Monitoring & Reporting

• Track project progress against the baseline schedule and prepare variance reports.
• Issue weekly and monthly progress reports, dashboards, and S-curves for management and client review.
• Maintain earned value management (EVM) metrics for cost and schedule performance.
• Support the project team in forecasting completion dates and identifying corrective measures.
  

Coordination

• Interface with engineering, procurement, contracts, and site execution teams for accurate inputs on progress and constraints.
• Liaise with subcontractors and vendors to collect progress data and validate schedules.
• Support project management in preparation of recovery plans, extensions of time (EOT) claims, and delay analysis.
  

Risk & Compliance

• Identify potential schedule risks and propose mitigation strategies.
• Ensure compliance with client reporting formats, contractual requirements, and internal project controls procedures.
• Support in audits and reviews related to planning and scheduling.
  

Continuous Improvement

• Standardize scheduling templates and reporting tools for data center projects.
• Capture lessons learned and contribute to improvement of planning practices across projects.
