Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

The key objectives for this role are:

  • Develop and maintain detailed project schedules using Primavera and other scheduling tools.
  • Perform logic and Critical Path Method (CPM) analysis to ensure schedule integrity.
  • Apply resource loading and leveling techniques to optimize manpower and equipment utilization.
  • Support the development and maintenance of Work Breakdown Structures (WBS) and Cost Breakdown Structures (CBS).
  • Prepare and update progress measurement systems, staffing plans, and resource histograms.
  • Conduct earned value analysis and report on cost and schedule variances and trends.
  • Collaborate with project management, engineering, procurement, and construction teams to ensure alignment of planning activities.
  • Support risk analysis and change control processes through schedule impact assessments.
  • Maintain accurate project records, reports, and dashboards for internal and client reporting.

Required Skills and Knowledge

Executing Assigned Scopes of Work:

  • Participate as a key team member in specific phases of broader project planning and control assignments.
  • Lead the preparation and coordination of planning documentation for assigned scopes of work.
  • Ensure timely and cost-effective completion of assigned planning tasks within project constraints.
  • Contribute to defining planning strategies, scheduling methodologies, and work execution plans.
  • Evaluate planning-related challenges, organize investigations, and establish performance benchmarks for project deliverables.
  • Review and validate planning inputs such as engineering deliverables, schedules, and resource plans.
  • Support and mentor junior planning professionals, promoting knowledge sharing and development.
  • Ensure compliance with discipline-specific procedures and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in audits, incident investigations, and ensure alignment with HSSE and quality standards.
  • Perform complex planning tasks related to specific project units or phases.
  • Attend site visits, project review meetings, design reviews, and planning workshops as required.
  • Organize and actively participate in design and schedule review sessions to ensure alignment with project goals.

Providing discipline expertise:

  • Develops innovative planning solutions by applying professional judgment and adapting existing methodologies to new challenges.
  • Modifies established planning guidelines and devises new approaches to meet complex project requirements.
  • Serves as a key contributor or technical lead on major planning and scheduling challenges within the project.
  • Regularly applies creativity and strategic thinking to resolve complex planning issues and optimize project outcomes.
  • Formulates planning strategies based on industry standards, experience, and analytical insight.
  • Anticipates potential scheduling or resource-related issues and proactively implements mitigation strategies.
  • Provides expert-level input on planning aspects of proposals, including schedules, resource plans, and risk assessments.
  • Understands client objectives and translates them into effective planning solutions aligned with project goals.
  • Offers technical guidance and mentorship to junior planning staff and cross-functional teams.
  • Participates in the development of planning tools, templates, and procedures to enhance project control capabilities.

br> Supporting and Supervising task delegation to team:

  • May supervise a small team of planning or technical staff, providing guidance and oversight with support from senior management.
  • Assist in managerial responsibilities such as:
    • Delegating planning tasks to team members
    • Coordinating portions of planning and scheduling work
    • Preparing scopes of work, schedules, and budget estimates
    • Participating in project meetings and supporting the development of junior staff
  • Collaborate with senior engineers and project leads to align priorities and assess the impact of planning decisions on other disciplines.
  • Approve and monitor work schedules, and recommend additional resources or specialized tools as needed.
  • Commit to project timelines, resource planning, and staffing requirements to meet project goals.
  • Coordinate planning activities across engineering and design teams for small to mid-sized site projects.
  • Contribute to the development of project timelines, deliverables, and work breakdowns.
  • May manage one or more small-scale projects, with responsibility for cost control, scheduling, resource allocation, and risk management.
  • Ensure compliance with HSSE (Health, Safety, Security & Environment) standards, both on-site and in planning deliverables, including technical and design safety requirements.

Desired Candidate Profile

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor s Degree in a relevant technical or business discipline
  • Equivalent vocational training and/or substantial industry experience may be considered
  • Minimum 13 years of relevant planning and scheduling experience, preferably in site-based roles within large-scale industrial or oil & gas projects
  • Proficient in Primavera (P6) and other scheduling software
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Work Breakdown Structures (WBS) and Cost Breakdown Structures (CBS)
    • Project execution procedures and planning methodologies
    • Resource loading, progress measurement, and staffing plans
    • Earned value management, including cost and schedule variance analysis
    • Change control, risk analysis, and project reporting tools
  • Solid grasp of project management principles and cross-functional coordination
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
