Roles & Responsibilities
This position is affiliated with Cincinnati s Children s hospital in the USA. The Pediatric Palliative Consultant provides expert care in the management of pain and symptoms for children with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions. The consultant leads clinical decision-making, advance care planning, and end-of-life support while guiding families and multidisciplinary teams. The role also includes education, mentorship, and participation in research initiatives, ensuring delivery of family-centered, high-quality palliative care.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversees the clinical activities of junior medical staff and ensures high standards of patient care.
- Leads pain and symptom management for children requiring palliative support.
- Supports advance care planning, decision-making, and communication with children, families, and care teams.
- Delivers palliative care across multiple settings: inpatient, outpatient, hospice, and home-based care.
- Engages in the education, supervision, and mentoring of residents and fellows in pediatric palliative medicine.
- Participates in clinical research and departmental initiatives to maintain professional standards.
- Promotes multidisciplinary team development and supports specialist nurse roles.
- Upholds hospital policies, procedures, and medical bylaws in all clinical practice.
- Maintains accurate documentation and care plans to ensure seamless transitions across care settings.
Desired Candidate Profile
Education/Qualification:
- Basic medical degree from recognized institution
- Post-qualification certification
- Qualification Source from: North America, Western Europe, Australia or New Zealand.
- USA: American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS)
- Canada: Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Certificate (FRCPC)
- UK and Ireland: GMC/CCST Specialist Register
- Australia and New Zealand: Fellowship from the Royal College (FRACP)
Experience:
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience post-board/equivalent certification in Austria, Australia, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland (CCST), United Kingdom (CCT) Luxembourg, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden OR Switzerland,
- Sub-Specialties : Minimum of two (2) years of experience post-sub-specialty certification in Austria, Australia, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Luxembourg, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, or the UK.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience after obtaining the main specialty qualification in United Kingdom (CESR) Portugal, Spain, or Italy
- Sub-Specialties : Minimum of four (4) years of experience after obtaining the sub-specialty qualification in Portugal, Spain, or Italy.
License:
- Current and in a Good Standing Medical License to practice in country of residence.
