Roles & Responsibilities

Shift supervisor shall come in Shift and Report to the Operation Manager. Operation of thermal power plants and Balance of Plant with optimum efficiency.
Leading and directing a team of operation engineers to complete operation activities of the Plant for compliance with load dispatch Instructions, operation routines, switching operations and taking initiative to avoid equipment damage.
Overall responsibility of seeing operation functions of main plant and auxiliaries’ systems including high voltage switchyard system.
Monitor continuously project equipment to ensure efficient and safe operation and maintenance work with safety procedures.
Cold Start up, Warm start up, Hot Start-up, Normal Operation, Emergency Handling and Safe shut down of Units.
Black start procedures, contingency planning and emergency preparedness in order to handle the emergencies and guide the engineers.
Grid Management, system control, Scheduling, Dispatch and Fuel Management functions.
Co-ordinate activities of supporting personnel on shift and directly supervise these personnel when required.
Supervise and ensure, line up of the unit and its auxiliaries, Changeover of equipment’s, routine testing of protection system and annunciation system.
Issue and cancellation PTW (Permit to Work) system, safe isolation. Shift operations must comply with personnel safety and equipment safety.
Monitor plant operations and handle emergencies including shut-down of units and load throw-off to control generation as per requirement.
Regularly ensure Instructions to Field operators for safe operation of Power Plant through CCR Desk operators.
Emergency Equipment Trial including Emergency DG operation and restoration of process and Equipment.
Familiar with local government Electricity Act and Rules & Knowledge of load scheduling.
Equipment pre-check list verification.
Recognition of unsafe acts and reporting of any near miss.
Strict adherence to PPE's as per work requirement. Inspecting safety before carry out the work. Ensure proper safety for height, confined and hot work PTW.
Review the shift operation check list for Startup, Normal Shutdown and Shift Handover / Takeover and carryout the corrections if required for approval.
Review the Standard operating procedures incorporating the operation instructions of equipment manufacturer and carryout the corrections if required for approval.
Acquire thorough knowledge of the startup and shutdown curves of the operating plant and ensure unit operation is as per the approved curves.
Identify the defects during the shift operations and list out in the shift report.
Analise the trends, SOE, parameters and find out the cause for the trip / disturbance during the shift operation and report in the shift report.
Coordinate with the Government Grid agencies and carry out the unit synchronisation / desynchronisation.
Proper relieving / takeover from the reliever shift supervisor and understand the alarms / isolations / status / defects etc.

Desired Candidate Profile

8 to 10 years working experience in Power Plants capacity of 500 MW (single unit size) or more in in handling Operation & Maintenance activities
Graduate Engineering - BE / B Tech in Mechanical / Electrical / I & C.
PG Diploma in Power / studied in Power Training Institutes.
