Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

Background and Objective ESCWA is implementing the project Bridging the Climate-Food Nexus: Coherent Climate Action and Food System Transformation for Resilient Arab Least Developed Countries . The national consultant will engage with related policymakers and other stakeholders in Yemen to develop a mapping report on climate action and food systems policies, plans, and regulations. Additionally, the consultant will support the organization of a national meeting in direct coordination with the food systems national convenor to present the findings from the mapping exercise. Duties and Responsibilities The consultant will develop an around 30-page mapping report for Yemen in both English and Arabic languages, analyzing existing national plans, policies, pathways, and institutional structures related to climate action and food systems transformation. This report will be informed by consultations with key stakeholders in the country. The final structure of the report will be determined in consultation with the ESCWA team. The consultant will support the organization in a national workshop to present the findings. Responsibilities might include drafting a concept note and agenda, preparing invitations, and coordinating with national partners. The consultant will present preliminary findings during the meeting. The national consultant is also expected to participate in a regional inception meeting that will be organized during 2025.

Desired Candidate Profile

A recognized first level degree in food security/food systems, economics, public policy, agriculture, climate change, sustainable development or related field is required. All candidates must submit a copy of the required educational degree. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. A minimum of five years of professional work experience in research and analysis related to food systems, climate change and sustainable development planning is required. Experience in food systems or climate change policymaking in Yemen is required. Strong analytical and writing skills is desirable. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are desirable.
