Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

Responsibilities

    • contact and teaching time with students on an individual, class or small group basis, within, or outside, the class (push-in and pull-out sessions)
    • prepare lessons and resources
    • mark and assess work
    • develop and adapt conventional teaching methods to meet the individual needs of students
    • use special equipment and facilities, such as audio-visual materials and computers to stimulate interest in learning
    • utilise specialist skills for breaching gaps in learning and understanding
    • collaborate with the classroom teacher to define appropriate activities for the students in relation to the curriculum
    • assess children who have long or short-term learning difficulties and work with colleagues to identify individual students special needs
    • work closely with parents and guardians
    • organise learning outside the classroom in activities such as community visits, school outings or sporting events
    • identify learning needs and arrange the correct support
    • create student centred plans for individual behaviour management (IBP)
    • create student centred plans for individual learning management (ILP)
    • assist in students personal care if needed
    • carry out administrative tasks, including updating and maintaining records of students progress
    • attend all reviews or other related meetings, regarding students with a SEN, which may involve reviewing education, health, care and Individual Learning plans
    • attend in-service training
    • demonstrate strong behaviour management
    • developing programmes of learning activities
    • planning, preparing and researching lessons
    • preparing and adapting teaching materials
    • checking and assessing students work and giving feedback
    • liaising with parents, external agencies and a range of other professionals, such as speech and language therapists, physiotherapists and educational psychologists
    • writing detailed reports
    • coordinating the work of support staff
    • other tasks assigned by School Principal
