What they do:

These consultants help execute data governance projects by supporting workshops, documenting data flows, reviewing existing policies, and organizing deliverables. They re not expected to design full frameworks but must be familiar with the language and structure of governance work.

What to look for:

1/ 4 8 years of experience in data governance, data operations, IT compliance, risk, or business/data analysis

2/ Has worked on projects involving data classification, data quality, access rights, or policy/procedure reviews

3/ Familiar with concepts like:

Data ownership & stewardship

RACI models

Metadata or process documentation

Data lifecycle (retention, cleansing, sharing)

4/ Can document and organize governance deliverables using Excel, PowerPoint, Word, or diagramming tools (Lucidchart, Visio, etc.)

5/ Comfortable engaging with IT, Risk, or Compliance teams to map how data is used and governed

6/ Understands the relationship between data handling and regulatory requirements, even if not a compliance expert

Ideal backgrounds:

Worked on ISO 27001/27701, GDPR projects, data migration, or audit readiness efforts

Former data analysts, data quality coordinators, IT risk officers, or business analysts who have participated in structured governance projects
