Roles & Responsibilities


Overview of position
• Our client is an operational arm of the United Nations (UN), supporting the successful implementation of its partners peacebuilding, humanitarian & development projects around the world. Their mission is to help people build better lives & countries achieve sustainable development.
• Their areas of expertise cover infrastructure, procurement, project management, financial management & human resources.
• Our client is undertaking a project that aims at increasing access to primary & secondary health services facilities (general hospitals, local health centres & therapeutic feeding centres) in Yemen, through restoring the physical infrastructure of health facilities (rehabilitation, maintenance works & minor repairs & new construction) in targeted areas.
• Our client will be responsible for the design & implementation works of the health facilities, ensuring highest standards in design & rehabilitation works & respect of state of the art requirements for safety, sustainability, security & disability access. In addition, our client will be responsible to provide the targeted facilities with priority medical equipment & supplies.
Role objectives
The engineering services desired include, but are not limited to preparation of plans, specifications & estimates of costs for project, detailed studies on specific items, conducting investigations, preparation of reports, inspection & construction contract administration. This will include but not limited to:
Site assessment:
• Carry out field visits to target facilities to inspect & verify the actual needs, collect data, taking measurements, etc.
• Support in designing & producing mechanical & plumbing systems design calculations, drawings & scope of works.
• Coordinate, facilitate & / or attend project related meetings, such as prebid, preconstruction & project progress meetings.
• The consultant will prepare & deliver the required documents in a professional way within specified working period(s).
Project supervising:
• Support in supervising the implementation of mechanical works on the site.
• Monitoring & following up the implementation of works including quality, quantity & time.
• Document all activities of the project.
Reporting:
• Ensure accurate & timely reporting of progress & conditions on site through daily site records prepared & submitted by the engineering team.
• Prepare & submit to the Site Engineer (or as requested) report within 5 days of month end, summarizing progress of contractor activities, quality control issues, health & safety issues, environmental issues, resourcing & scheduling issues & any other relevant pertinent facts as required.
• Produce any appropriate documentation identified by the Site Engineer & Project Manager in a professional & accurate manner.
Project reporting
The Senior Officer Mechanical Engineer will be reporting to the Site Engineer with oversight of the Project Manager.
Key competencies
• Master degree in mechanical engineering or bachelors degree with additional 2 years is required.
• 2 years working experience in project assessment, design & management experience in rehabilitation projects & construction projects is required.
• A previous experience in rehabilitation & construction of hospitals is an asset.
• Excellent oral & written communication skills is preferable.
• Experience in the usage of computers & software packages (drawing software, structural software, office (Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.) & advance knowledge of spreadsheet & database packages is required.
• Excellent knowledge in written & oral of English & Arabic languages is required.
