Roles & Responsibilities

Experience

Minimum of 7 to 10 years of experience in Design and Engineering of GIS and AIS Substations projects

Should be working as Mechanical Design Engineer or MEP Engineer (Gulf experience is mandatory) with experience in the design of mechanical systems and components in AIS/GIS substation projects. The role involves preparing and reviewing layouts, equipment supports structures, HVAC systems (for GIS/control rooms), fire protection, and mechanical interfaces to ensure safe and compliant substation designs. (Saudi experience is preferred)

Role & responsibilities


  • Analyze client tender documents, technical specifications, and project scope related to mechanical systems in substations
  • Prepare preliminary mechanical design concepts and layouts for:
  • Equipment supports structures
  • HVAC systems for GIS/control rooms
  • Fire detection & suppression systems
  • Transformer oil handling and firewalls
  • Compressed air systems and piping (GIS)
  • Cable trays, marshalling box supports, and brackets
  • Estimate quantities and material requirements (BOQ) for mechanical components
  • Identify design deviations, technical assumptions, and propose value-engineering solutions to optimize cost
  • Coordinate with internal teams (civil, primary, secondary, proposal) to ensure mechanical scope alignment
  • Liaise with vendors and OEMs to obtain budgetary quotations, datasheets, and mechanical drawings for bid submission

Contribute to technical bid documentation, including design notes, compliance checklists, and method statements


  • Design and detailing of mechanical structures including:
  • Support structures for HV equipment (transformers, CTs, CVTs, etc.)
  • Equipment lifting & handling arrangements
  • HVAC system design for GIS substations and control rooms
  • Cable trays, earthing strips, and mechanical supports
  • Prepare layouts and construction drawings for:
  • Compressed air piping systems (GIS)
  • Fire protection systems (hydrants, sprinklers, fire extinguishers)
  • Oil handling systems, bund walls, and drainage associated with power transformers
  • Coordinate with electrical (primary and civil) design teams for equipment interface requirements
  • Ensure compliance with relevant mechanical and safety standards (IS, ASHRAE, NFPA, IEEE, IEC)
  • Provide mechanical Bill of Quantities (BOQ) and technical support during procurement
  • Conduct vendor drawing reviews for mechanical items (e.g., transformers, GIS panels, HVAC systems)

Support on-site teams during construction, erection, and commissioning, including resolution of mechanical issues
