Roles & Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
Metallurgical Analysis:
Conduct metallurgical analysis of production pipes, including microstructure evaluation, in compliance with ISO 945-1 standards.
Interpret results to ensure conformity with production and quality requirements.
Failure Analysis:
Perform failure analysis on production pipes to identify root causes of any defects or failures.
Document findings and suggest corrective actions to improve product quality.
Mechanical Testing:
Carry out tensile and hardness testing on specimens as per standard requirements, particularly in accordance with ISO 6892-1.
Ensure accuracy in results and compliance with industry standards.
Cement Testing:
Prepare and test sand prism samples for cement according to BS EN 196-1 and BS EN 197-1 standards.
Analyse results and maintain detailed records of all testing procedures.
Spectrometer Operation:
Operate and troubleshoot issues related to the spectrometer for material composition analysis.
Ensure proper calibration and functioning of the spectrometer for accurate results.
SEM Usage (Advantageous):
Knowledge and experience in operating Scanning Electron Microscopes (SEM) for detailed microstructural and failure analysis will be considered a significant advantage.
Utilise SEM to conduct advanced material analysis when required.
Compliance with ISO 17025:
Ensure all testing procedures and laboratory practices comply with ISO 17025 standards for laboratory competence.
Maintain proper documentation and implement quality control measures to meet ISO 17025 requirements.
Data Management and Reporting:
Use SAP for routine laboratory work, including data entry, test result tracking, and maintaining accurate inventory of lab materials.
Prepare detailed reports of all lab tests and analyses using Excel and Word, ensuring data accuracy and proper documentation.
Continuous Improvement:
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of testing standards and procedures.
Participate in continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing testing efficiency and accuracy.
Desired Candidate Profile
Previous experience in a ductile iron pipe manufacturing or similar industry.
Good communication and report writing skills.
Awareness of health, safety, and environmental standards related to laboratory work.
