Roles & Responsibilities

Summary

The International Welding Engineer (IWE) is responsible for overseeing all welding operations and ensuring compliance with international standards, including ISO 9001 and API Q1 10th Edition, within steel pipe manufacturing processes. This role involves leading the development and implementation of welding procedures, qualifying welders, and ensuring the quality and integrity of welded products to meet both customer and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, review, and approve Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and Procedure Qualification Records (PQR) in compliance with ISO 9001, API Q1 10th Edition, and relevant international standards.
  • Conduct welding procedure qualifications, including testing and documentation, to ensure that they meet the required specifications.
  • Maintain up-to-date records of all welding procedures and qualifications.
  • Oversee the qualification and certification of welders in accordance with company standards, customer requirements, and international regulations.
  • Conduct regular assessments of welder performance and provide necessary training or requalification as needed.
  • Ensure that all welding activities comply with ISO 9001, API Q1 10th Edition, and other relevant standards.
  • Lead and participate in internal and external audits related to welding activities and quality management systems.
  • Implement and monitor corrective actions to address non-conformities in welding processes.
  • Provide technical support to production teams on welding-related issues, including material selection, welding techniques, and defect analysis.
  • Collaborate with the engineering team to improve welding processes and enhance product quality.
  • Advise on the procurement of welding equipment and consumables, ensuring they meet required specifications.
  • Prepare and maintain comprehensive documentation related to welding activities, including WPS, PQR, and welder qualification records.
  • Generate regular reports on welding performance, non-conformities, and corrective actions for management review.
  • Promote and enforce a strong safety culture within the welding operations, ensuring compliance with HSE policies and procedures.
  • Identify and mitigate risks associated with welding activities, ensuring the safety of personnel and equipment.
  • Lead initiatives to improve welding efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness within the manufacturing process.
  • Stay updated on the latest developments in welding technology and standards, and implement best practices within the organization.

Qualification

  • Bachelor s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgy, or a related field. International Welding Engineer (IWE) certification is mandatory.
  • 0-1 year of experience in welding engineering within the steel pipe manufacturing industry, with a strong understanding of ISO 9001 and API Q1 standards.
  • In-depth knowledge of welding processes, materials, and metallurgy.
  • Proficiency in developing and qualifying welding procedures.
  • Familiarity with welding inspection techniques and non-destructive testing (NDT) methods.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
  • Problem-solving and analytical skills.
