Role description
The Opportunity
We are seeking an outstanding, passionate, and motivated
Strings Instructor to join our highly successful Instrumental
Music Team. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a
thriving department that nurtures musical excellence and
inspires students across all age groups.
As part of a dynamic and supportive team, you will instil a love
of music in your students, delivering lessons that are
engaging, creative, and inspiring. You will play a key role in
helping students develop their technical proficiency and
musicality, preparing them to perform confidently both
individually and as part of ensembles.
You will also contribute to the wider musical life of the
school, supporting concerts, recitals, and performances, and
fostering a lifelong appreciation and enjoyment of music.
What You Will Do
● Teach Strings to students from beginner level to
Grade 8 and Diploma standard, as appropriate.
● Plan and deliver engaging lessons that promote
motivation, enjoyment, and a love of learning in
every student.
● Prepare students thoroughly for examinations such
as ABRSM and/or Trinity up to Diploma level.
● Support and prepare students for performances,
recitals, and auditions ensuring they are confident
and well prepared
● Play an active role in preparing students for events
such as YMOG (Young Musicians of the Gulf),
supporting their performance and development in
this prestigious competition.
● Encourage students to participate in a range of
musical activities and ensembles within the school
and the wider community
● Liaise with the Director of Performing Arts and
parents to monitor and support individual student
progress addressing specific needs and potential..
● Contribute to the school’s extensive extra-curricular
music programme, supporting rehearsals, concerts
and events.
● provide excellent pastoral care as a teacher and form
tutor, knowing that student wellbeing and mental
health are pivotal to students’ success
● know and build upon students’ capabilities and prior
knowledge
● guide students to reflect on the progress they have
made and their emerging needs
● demonstrate knowledge and understanding of how
students learn and how this impacts on teaching
● encourage students to take a responsible and
conscientious attitude to their own work and study

● in collaboration with colleagues within your team and

Pedagogy and Planning
Plan and teach well structured and engaging lessons that
meet the needs of all students
● inspire students to develop knowledge, skills and
understanding through highly effective use of lesson
time
● use extensively the pedagogical rubric in planning
and professional conversations
● model and promote a love of learning and of
intellectual curiosity
● set homework (where appropriate), plan and
contribute to other out-of-class activities to
consolidate and extend students’ knowledge, skills
and understanding

(Senior School), supporting school events

Person specification
Qualifications and Experience
A relevant Music Performance and/or Music Teaching Qualification
Experience teaching Strings at both Junior and Senior School Levels
Experience leading and developing music ensembles
Classroom teaching experience is desirable but not essential
Enthusiasm about Music, with the energy and motivation to inspire students
Knowledge and skills
Commitment to Professional Development
Competent in the use of Information and Communication Technology
Google Certified Educator Level 1 (this should be completed prior to taking up the position)
Knowledge of G-Suite (formerly Google Apps for Education)
