Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

We are seeking an exceptional and visionary Head of Inclusion to lead the development of a world-class, evidence-informed inclusion department at Mesaieed International School. This new position represents a pivotal moment in our school s journey and a clear statement of our unwavering commitment to equity and excellence for every learner.

You will play a key role in shaping an inclusive culture that ensures all students, including those with additional needs, disabilities, or barriers to learning, can flourish academically, socially, and emotionally. As the strategic leader for Inclusion, you will ensure that every student s right to access, progress, and achievement is realised through high-quality, adaptive teaching at the classroom level and targeted support that complements, not replaces, excellent teaching.

You will lead a small team of 5 teaching assistants and an Assistant Head of Inclusion, embedding clarity, consistency, and high expectations across every aspect of SEND and inclusion practice. Central to your work will be the establishment of a strong, sustainable, and collaborative department, rooted in the principle that inclusion means support, in class provision. You will model and promote the belief that inclusion begins with Quality First Teaching, where the needs of all learners are anticipated, lessons are responsive, and adaptations are purposeful, and evidence informed. Through coaching, professional development, and strong systems of collaboration, you will empower every teacher to take ownership of inclusion in their classroom, ensuring that high-quality teaching remains the first and most powerful form of intervention.

As a member of the school s leadership team, you will contribute to the strategic direction of Mesaieed International School as we continue our journey to excellence. You will champion the voice of students with additional needs, ensuring their lived experiences inform the evolution of our curriculum, assessment, and wellbeing systems. You will also strengthen partnerships with families, external agencies, and the wider QatarEnergy network, ensuring that our inclusive practices align with international standards and reflect our local context.

This is an exciting and transformative time for Mesaieed International School. The establishment of this dedicated leadership role underscores our belief that equity and excellence go hand in hand. The successful candidate will be instrumental in building the structures, culture, and professional expertise that define the next phase of our inclusion journey, one that ensures every learner is seen, supported, and empowered to succeed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership: Shape and implement a whole-school vision for inclusion and attendance that aligns with MIS s Framework for Excellence, ensuring equity, access, and high expectations are embedded in every aspect of school life
  • Provision and Systems: Oversee the design, delivery, and evaluation of all SEND and inclusion systems, including identification, support planning, access arrangements and IEP cycles, ensuring clarity, compliance, and measurable impact
  • Attendance: Act as the school s strategic lead for attendance, ensuring that attendance, punctuality, and engagement are integral to inclusion and academic success
  • Team Leadership and Professional Development: Line-manage the Inclusion team, providing coaching, professional development, and accountability to drive evidence-informed practice, alongside leading wider staff training in inclusive pedagogy
  • Quality First Teaching: Lead the implementation of adaptive teaching strategies across all subjects, ensuring classroom practice remains the foundation of inclusive education and that targeted interventions complement, not replace, high-quality teaching
  • Student Progress and Support: Monitor the academic, social, and emotional progress of students with additional needs, coordinating targeted interventions and ensuring all students have access to the full breadth of the curriculum
  • Family and Community Engagement: Build strong partnerships with parents and carers, maintaining open, solution-focused communication and ensuring families are empowered to participate in decision-making
  • Safeguarding and Wellbeing: Work closely with pastoral, safeguarding teams and external agencies to ensure early identification, coordinated support, and holistic care for students experiencing barriers to learning or attendance

Desired Candidate Profile

An exceptional ability to build strong, trusting relationships with students, staff, and families, promoting a culture of inclusion rooted in equity, empathy, and high expectations for all learners

A deep understanding of adolescent development and the diverse range of learning, social, and emotional needs within a secondary context, ensuring every student feels known, supported, and challenged to achieve their best

An expert understanding of Quality First Teaching and the ability to lead staff in embedding adaptive, evidence-informed classroom strategies that meet the needs of all students ensuring support, in class provision

Strong leadership and management skills, including the capacity to mentor and develop inclusion specialists, teachers, and teaching assistants, building a cohesive and high-performing team that promotes consistency and clarity of practice

A highly analytical approach to using data from academic performance, behaviour, attendance, and wellbeing indicators to identify patterns, inform interventions, and evaluate impact

An unwavering commitment to safeguarding, equity, and accessibility, ensuring all statutory and best-practice requirements for students with SEND or additional needs are met

A passion for collaboration working in partnership with staff, students, parents, and external agencies to co-create solutions that remove barriers to learning and promote full participation in school life

A willingness to contribute to the wider life of the school, modelling inclusive practice across co-curricular and community initiatives and celebrating the achievements of all learners

You will be relentless in your pursuit of excellence. Mesaieed International School is bursting with potential, and this post is perfect for a leader who wants to make a real difference in a supportive and forward-thinking school. You will teach within an environment of professional autonomy in an ambitious, visionary school with exceptional students.

Our school sits at the heart of a kind and welcoming community, operating across three campuses: Secondary, Primary, and EYFS. As a through school, we deliver the National Curriculum for England, IGCSEs and A Levels/BTECs to over 1,200 students aged 3 to 19, representing more than 30 different nationalities.

Our vision is for our students to be high-achieving, healthy, and happy individuals who are well prepared to take their place as global citizens and leaders of the future. Our mission is to achieve this through inspirational teaching that places high value on learning, enjoyment, and the well-being of every student. MIS is proud to have achieved the highest level of accreditation from the Qatar National School Accreditation (QNSA), demonstrating both the strength of our provision and our commitment to continuous improvement.

Our students benefit from a culture of high expectations and strong pastoral support, reflecting excellent academic outcomes. In 2024 to 2025, 54% of IGCSE grades were 9 to 7 (86% at 9 to 4), with exceptional value-added progress of +1.0 at GCSE and +0.3 at A Level. Our A Level results exceeded UK national averages, showcasing the impact of an ambitious curriculum, expert teaching, and assessment practices that help every learner exceed their potential.

We are committed to nurturing a culture of excellence in which both pupils and staff can flourish and strive to be the very best they can. A dedication to refining our teaching craft sits at the heart of our work at MIS, alongside our commitment to developing a world-class curriculum that is rigorous, ambitious, and rooted in deep subject expertise. We are passionate about growth, improving through thoughtful reflection, deliberate practice, and shared professional learning, and we believe strongly in the power of teamwork, knowing that we achieve far more together than alone. Teachers at MIS are committed to ongoing professional development and maintaining exceptional classroom practice; all staff play an active role in our busy pastoral system; and consistently high standards of student progress and attainment are expected. In addition, every colleague contributes to our co-curricular programme. For these reasons, MIS is a truly special place to work. The rewards are considerable: motivated, respectful, and eager to learn students, and opportunities to develop professional expertise through high quality CPD.

This is an exciting time to join the school. We have recently embarked on a whole school improvement journey, guided by our Framework for Excellence, and we warmly invite motivated professionals to help shape our future as we strive to become amongst the very best schools in the world.
