Roles & Responsibilities

About the Role

HYS Games is seeking a skilled Hard Surface Modeler to create high-quality assets for our upcoming hero-driven combat racing project. From vehicles and weapons to track props and gadgets, your work will define the bold, mechanical identity of the game. You must be comfortable modeling both with modeling reference Blueprints (based on concept art) and without modeling reference Blueprints , building creative, production-ready assets that fit seamlessly into our world.

Responsibilities

Modeling

  • Create detailed hard surface models (vehicles, weapons, gadgets, track props, environment set pieces).
  • Work both from concept references and from creative direction without strict references.
  • Ensure clean, optimized topology for Unity HDRP real-time performance.

Texturing & Materials

  • Apply textures and materials that match the project s stylized, semi-realistic art style.
  • Collaborate with technical artists to ensure materials and shaders integrate smoothly.

World Integration

  • Collaborate with environment and vehicle artists to ensure consistency of scale and style.
  • Support the track team by providing modular and reusable hard surface assets.

Collaboration

  • Work closely with the Art Director to maintain stylistic cohesion across assets.
  • Partner with environment, vehicle, and technical artists for efficient integration.

Desired Candidate Profile

Requirements

  • Strong portfolio showcasing hard surface models for games (vehicles, props, or weapons).
  • Ability to model assets both with modeling references Blueprints and independently from creative direction.
  • Proficiency in Maya/Blender, ZBrush (for detailing), Substance Painter, and Unity workflows.
  • Strong understanding of topology, scale, and asset optimization for real-time rendering.
  • Demonstrated ability to match an existing stylized, painted/semi-realistic art style.
Nice to Have
  • Experience modeling for racing, combat, or hero-based games.
  • Ability to texture/paint assets to completion (without additional handoff).
  • Familiarity with Unity HDRP optimization (LODs, draw calls, shaders).
  • Passion for racing, action, or competitive multiplayer games.
