Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

Motility Care and Testing:

  • Performance and Assistance: Independently performs and assists with a range of GI motility studies, including esophageal manometry, pH impedance, and anorectal manometry.
  • Technical Proficiency: Ensures the correct application of techniques and the optimal functioning of equipment during motility studies.

Breath Testing Administration:

  • Variety of Tests: Conducts and administers various breath tests, such as Glucose/ Lactulose Breath Tests and Gastric Emptying Breath Test.
  • Accurate Execution: Follows strict protocols for breath test administration to ensure accurate and reliable results.

Capsule Endoscopy Management:

  • Pre- and Post- Procedure Support: Provides comprehensive support to patients undergoing Colon Capsule Endoscopy (CCE) and Small Bowel Capsule Endoscopy (SBCE).
  • Bowel Preparation Confirmation: Verifies adequate bowel preparation prior to capsule endoscopy procedures.
  • Data Processing: Processes data retrieved from the capsule after the procedure, preparing it for physical interpretation.

Rectal Function Testing:

  • Specialized Testing: Manages and performs rectal compliance and sensation testing to evaluate patients experiencing constipation or fecal incontinence.
  • Data Interpretation Preparation: Ensures accurate data collection for physician interpretation.

Patient Monitoring and Intervention:

  • Continuous Observation: Closely monitors patients vital signs and their physical and emotional well-being throughout procedures and during the recovery period.
  • Adverse Reaction Management: Responds promptly and effectively to any complications or adverse reactions that may arise during or after procedures.
  • Equipment Maintenance and Troubleshooting:
  • Equipment Upkeep: Maintains all motility and testing equipment in optimal working conditions by performing regular cleaning and coordinates with Biomedical Engineers for calibration and troubleshooting.
  • Inventory Management: Ensures adequate supplies are available for all procedures.

Comprehensive Instruction:

  • Procedural Guidance: Educates patients and their families in detail about the specific procedure they will undergo, including what to expect during and after the test.
  • Pre- Procedure Preparation: Provides clear and concise instructions regarding necessary dietary modification and medication adjustment required for successful test completion.

Information Management and Communication:

  • Order Verification: Communicates with referring physicians to verify orders, obtain relevant patient history, and clarify any questions or discrepancies.
  • Test Appropriateness: Ensures that the correct test is performed based on the patient s clinical presentation and the physician s orders.

Appointment Coordination:

  • Scheduling and Efficient Workflow: Streamline the scheduling process to optimize efficiency and minimize patient wait times, equipment availability, physician schedules and patient needs.

Patient Advocacy:

  • Comfort and Dignity: Acts as a strong patient advocate, ensuring the patient s comfort, dignity, and safety throughout the entire testing process.
  • Addressing Concerns: Addresses patient anxieties and concerns, providing reassurance and support.

Detailed Record Keeping:

  • Comprehensive Documentation: Maintains accurate, timely, and comprehensive patient records, including pre- procedure assessments, detailed procedure notes, and post- procedure recovery notes.
  • Electronic Health Record (HER) Proficiency: Proficiently utilizes electronic record systems for documentation.

Reporting Procedure Findings:

  • Data Presentation: Documents and reports of procedure findings and any relevant patient information in a clear and concise manner for interpretation by the gastroenterologist. Being part of the gastroenterology multidisciplinary team meeting.
  • Critical Information Highlighting: Highlights any abnormal findings or potential complications.

Quality Improvement Initiatives:

  • Participation: Actively participates in quality assurance and quality improvement initiatives related to GI motility and procedural nursing.
  • Data Analysis: Contributes data collection and analysis to identify areas for improvement in patient care and procedural efficiency.

Continuous Learning:

  • Staying Current: Stays up to date with the latest advancements in gastroenterology nursing, particularly in the areas of GI motility disorders, testing techniques, and equipment.
  • Journal Review: Regularly reviews relevant medical literature and attends conferences or workshops.

Desired Candidate Profile

UAE Medical Health Authority License (DHA).

Bachelor s degree in nursing or Degree in Nursing (minimum two years course duration) And Registration as a Registered Nurse from Canada, USA, UK, Ireland, South Africa, New Zealand, and Australia.

Having a Certification as a Gastroenterology Registered Nurse (CGRN) is an advantage
