Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the availability of the appropriate number of trained security personnel.
  • Facilitate the development of a multidisciplinary safety committee to provide oversight of the facility management and safety program that consists of representatives from relevant departments such as safety, security, housekeeping, infection control, risk management, biomedical engineering, laboratory, medical staff, nursing, radiation safety, maintenance, and quality management.
  • Comply with CBAHI Standards, Civil Defense, MOH, and other relevant regulations.
  • Adjust staff schedules to improve unit productivity.
  • Develop policies regarding safety and security during construction, renovation, or demolition projects including but not limited to; safety instructions, isolation of construction and renovation sites, eliminating the risks of fire or spread of dust & ensuring safety rounds on construction/renovation sites by facility management and safety and infection control staff.
  • Ensure appropriate warning signs are posted in the hospital including, but not limited to, signs for the radioactive materials, x-ray rooms, wet floors & prohibition of smoking.
  • Ensure availability of directive signs such as, but not limited to; entrances & emergency exits, fire exit signs, MRI patient safety measures, and steel restriction signs.
  • Direct safety measures to ensure the safety of patients and staff such as, but not limited to; non-slipping floor surfaces, bars to support patients, bells or a system to call for help, fire blankets, first aid kits & fire extinguishers.
  • Develop radiation safety policies and procedures such as to ensure materials are clearly labeled and securely stored.
  • Ensure appropriate shielding of the x-ray room(s) including regular tests to ensure permissible radiation levels.
  • Facilitate protection from unnecessary exposure to laser beams in areas where it is used by appropriate area restrictions & provision of protective equipment.
  • Ensure the availability of security personnel or alternative security systems to restrict access to sensitive areas of the hospital.
  • Device policies and procedures regarding prevention of child abduction, lost and found items, safe keeping of patient belongings, trauma, domestic or child abuse, and medico-legal incidents.
  • Develop protocols in case of emergencies, disasters, or threats.
  • Ensure appropriate handling, storage, transportation, and disposal of hazardous materials & other waste materials.
  • Development of policies regarding internal disaster plans of the hospital including, but not limited to, names and titles of staff responsible for certain duties in case of internal disaster & evacuation procedures for patients, visitors, and employees.
  • Responsible for management of annual leave within budgeted staffing numbers ensuring service continuity and capacity.
  • Monitor fiscal budget to control operational and capital expenditures.
  • Facilitate appropriate training & education of unit staff regarding protocols and work instructions.
  • Ensure that emergency power covers the critical areas in case of failure including, but not limited to, operating room, critical care units, alarm systems, fire pumps, blood storage, medical gas systems, refrigerators, elevators, escape routes, etc.
  • Ensure airflow, temperature, and humidity control in different areas of the hospital.
  • Develop a utility system management plan that includes management of failure or interruption of the following utilities: normal power, emergency power, cases of no power at sockets at critical areas, failure at critical areas or elevators, water supply, reverse osmosis plant, air-conditioning fan coil unit, medical gas system, etc.
  • Ensure a periodic preventive maintenance plan for heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) with appropriate documentation.
  • Evaluate procedures for compliance with licensure, accreditation, and regulatory standards.

Qualification & Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor s Degree in engineering science or equivalent.
  • Extensive training and proved competency in facility management and safety (OSHA, NEBOSH, IOSH, etc.).
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in an acute care hospital environment with an extensive background in healthcare operations with specific involvement in facilities management & patient safety activities especially CBAHI s FMS standards.


Skills and Competencies:

  • Knowledge of regulations established by the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties related to healthcare practices.
  • Exceptional analytical skills to effectively evaluate information & identify areas for improvement.
  • Abilities to operate & monitor relevant equipment.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of quality assurance practices.
  • Experience in developing policies & procedures to ensure effective management.
  • Highly effective communication skills and ability to coordinate with other clinicians and executive staff.
  • Skills to develop strategies & implement action plans.
  • Ability to implement an initiative to create a safe environment within the hospital.
  • Organization skills to manage multiple safety projects.
  • Advanced interpersonal communication skills to provide effective consultation and collaboration.
