2 Job Purpose


To manage the Exhibition Design activities such as organising, developing, and designing permanent and temporary art exhibitions and programmes for existing DCT s new and existing art collections, museums and projects. Ensure operational set-up and implementation adheres to the defined standards and regulations of DCT.



3 Accountabilities


Annual Planning and Performance Management



  • Contribute to the development of the Scientific, Curatorial, and Collection department s annual business plan in order to ensure that the Exhibition Design unit s activities and plans are aligned and congruent with the needs and plans of the department.

  • Monitor performance of the Exhibition Design unit in accordance of the direction set forth by the Strategy and Planning Sector, and prepare periodic reports on the performance of the Exhibition Design unit to ensure that the employee performance is continually measured and addressed in a timely and effective manner.


Design Development



  • Participate in the exhibition design development process from early concept, through design and fabrication, to installation and project completion for the design and installation team.

  • Provide specialised cultural expertise around the development, implementation and management of exhibition activities of DCT s art collections and the new one for the new projects.

  • Coordinate with Exhibition design team and Curators of the museum to create the strongest possible exhibitions programme for museums and develop conceptual ideas to support objectives in mobilising internal and external design resources.


Operations



  • Coordinate with the line manager to successfully translate the curatorial and artistic vision for the exhibition through design and layout of the installation or exhibition.

  • Generate and manage CAD drawings, computer renderings, and other visual materials to communicate exhibition design to all other departments as required.

  • Collaborate with curatorial staff to determine all aspects of the exhibition gallery environment and needs, including layout of artwork, wall construction, custom casework, finishes etc., as well as traveling exhibitions, as required.

  • Coordinate in the implementation of exhibition design in the museum galleries, whether design is developed in-house or by an outside designer

  • Effectively coordinate with Fabrication/Construction and Exhibit staff to ensure that all design elements are executed according to plan and highest levels of design support for all development projects, permanent and temporary exhibits and special events.

  • Manage architectural integrity of installation and the surrounding space as well as within the gallery space.

  • Ensure all relevant environment, health and safety policies, procedures and controls are adhered to so that employee safety, legislative compliance, and a responsible environmental attitude can be guaranteed.

  • Comply with all relevant EHS guidelines, policies and procedures, report incidents and hazards in a timely manner, and reduce consumption of natural resources to support in protecting the environment and ensure a healthy and safe work environment.


Change Management



  • Support the creation of culture susceptible to change management through a hands-on and can-do approach to DCT s new business opportunities, participating in the development of new initiatives, meeting planned targets, and demonstrating preferred high-performance behaviours.

5 Qualifications, Experience, Competencies


Qualification



  • Bachelor s degree in Architecture Engineering, Scientific and Technical Sciences or equivalent

  • Master s Degree in Architecture Engineering, Scientific and Technical Sciences is preferred.


Experience



  • Bachelor Degree Holders: 4 to 6 years of experience in Architectural Design/Construction/Museum Conservation role preferably 2 years of which in managerial position.


OR



  • Post Graduate Holders: 2 to 4 years of experience in Architectural Design/Construction/Museum Conservation field; 1 year of which in managerial position.
