Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

King s College Doha is seeking an outstanding English Teacher to join our Senior School team. The successful candidate will teach pupils from Years 9 to 13 and may also take on the role of Form Tutor.

This role is suited to a passionate and reflective educator who is committed to securing the highest standards of pupil achievement and who can actively promote and develop the vision and ethos of King s College Doha. For the right candidate, leadership opportunities may be available.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching and Learning

  • Foster a love of English, a strong work ethic, and a culture of high expectations where all pupils are supported to fulfil their potential.

  • Plan and deliver well-structured, engaging, and creative lessons that meet the needs of all learners.

  • Work collaboratively within the English Department to plan the curriculum and schemes of work.

  • Ensure teaching is aligned with the school s curriculum development plan and the standards associated with Common Entrance and external assessments.

  • Set challenging learning goals and use a range of strategies, resources, and technologies to support pupil progress.

  • Provide regular written and verbal feedback, encouraging pupils to reflect on and respond to feedback effectively.

  • Assess, record, and report on pupil achievement in line with school procedures.

  • Provide additional academic support to pupils as required.

Pastoral and Wider School Life

  • Undertake pastoral and supervisory duties, including the role of Form Tutor if required.

  • Ensure outstanding pastoral care in line with King s College Doha policies and expectations.

  • Act as an exemplary role model for pupils at all times.

  • Attend assemblies, departmental meetings, parents evenings, and school events as required.

  • Contribute fully to the wider life of the school, including extracurricular activities, school events, and parent information sessions.

  • Support and promote the school s positive image within the community.

Curriculum Development

  • Develop and implement innovative teaching and learning strategies to enhance pupil engagement.

  • Design high-quality, creative, subject-specific learning activities.

  • Assist in sourcing and managing appropriate teaching resources.

  • Ensure strong vertical and horizontal curriculum alignment across year groups.

  • Analyse and act upon assessment data to ensure outstanding pupil progress.

  • Regularly review personal practice and take responsibility for ongoing professional development.

Desired Candidate Profile

Excellent working knowledge of the UK National Curriculum or equivalent.(E)

  • High levels of subject knowledge.(E)

  • A minimum of two years relevant teaching experience.(E)

  • A good degree from a recognised university.(E)

  • PGCE, QTS, or equivalent teaching qualification.(E)

  • Strong organisational, administrative, and communication skills.(E)

  • Ability to inspire pupils and foster a love of learning.(E)

  • Willingness to contribute fully to all aspects of school life. (E)

  • Experience teaching pupils with English as an Additional Language (EAL).(D)

  • Experience working in the independent school sector.(D)

  • Emerging leadership qualities and potential for future leadership roles.(D)
