Job Description
Roles & Responsibilities
Planning
1. To plan collaboratively with Subject and grade/subject team teachers and coordinators
2. Planning based on student learning outcomes derived from the BC curriculum
3. Plan assessment strategies throughout the planning process
4. To plan according to a range of ability levels so that all students are challenged through differentiation
5. To work in collaboration with educational support
Teaching
1. To use a variety of teaching strategies;
2. To build on students ‘prior knowledge;
3. To use a variety of resources with an emphasis on meaningful technology implementation;
4. To involve students actively in their own learning;
5. To provide experiences in critical thinking, communication, and personal and social relationships;
6. To maintain constant awareness of the needs of second language learners;
7. To address the needs of students with different levels and types of ability through differentiation.
8. To promote student’s physical, mental, behavioral, and social development;
9. To work in collaboration with Educational support to enhance classroom learning
Assessing
1. To use variety of assessment strategies (formative and summative);
2. To involve students and colleagues in the assessment process;
3. To involve students in shared reflection throughout each unit;
4. To involve students to see assessment as means of describing their learning;
5. To evaluate and identify students individual understanding before embarking on new learning;
6. To ensure that students are constantly provided feedback on their learning and development (through class work, homework, quizzes, assignment, coursework, lab) for next step of learning;
7. To ensure that students give feedback to teachers on their teaching strategies, for example student survey to help teachers reflect and modify their teaching strategies for further improvement;
8. To share the expected learning outcomes with students and parents to further improve learning;
9. To ensure that all assessment is valid, fair, reliable and practical;
10. To collect and record relevant assessment data for reporting purposes; this data should be used for further improving student’s learning;
11. To implement, review and reflect the assessment policies outlined in the BC curriculum.

3. To ensure that students are engaged and their accomplishments area recognized and celebrated;
4. To ensure that students work is effectively displayed to create a stimulating environment and extended student’s learning;
5. To ensure that rules and routines, mutually agreed upon by teacher and students, contribute to a positive and healthy environment that enhances consistent behavior and learning.
Desired Candidate Profile
- Degree can be in liberal arts with a major in Education or an additional year in education beyond the undergraduate year
- Teachers must be eligible to apply and meet the requirements for a British Columbia Teaching Certificate (Applications from Canadian provinces welcome)
- Have a British Columbia teaching certificate or A teaching certificate from another Canadian province or Have a teaching certificate from a foreign English speaking jurisdiction and meets the requirements of the British Columbia Teachers Regulation Branch (5-year undergraduate degree taken in English and a teaching certificate)
- Energetic, creative, and have the fortitude to meet the challenges of a quickly growing school
- Understand a personalized approach to learning and assessment
- Have training or understanding of the inquiry approach to teaching and learning
- Well versed in classroom teaching with integrated learning methods (as opposed to subject teaching)
- Well versed in 21st-century teaching and learning
