Job Description
Roles & Responsibilities
Main tasks and responsibilities
Emergency Response Planning: Develop and maintain fire and emergency response plans, including evacuation procedures, firefighting strategies, and coordination protocols with local authorities.
Fire Safety Design Reviews: Review design drawings and specifications for new and modified facilities to ensure compliance with fire safety codes and integration of appropriate fire protection systems.
Incident Command Support: Serve as technical advisor to the Incident Commander during emergency situations, providing input on firefighting tactics, equipment usage, and scene safety.
Fire Protection Systems Maintenance Coordination: Collaborate with maintenance and reliability teams to schedule and oversee preventive and corrective maintenance of fire detection and suppression systems.
Training & Awareness: Conduct training sessions and fire safety awareness programs for staff, including use of extinguishers, emergency evacuation, and fire watch responsibilities.
Lead fire drills and emergency simulations; evaluate and improve performance based on outcomes.
Documentation & Regulatory Compliance: Maintain accurate records of fire drills, inspection reports, incident investigations, equipment certifications, and training logs.
Contractor Safety Oversight: Monitor and assess fire safety compliance of third-party contractors working on-site; ensure contractor activities adhere to HSSE policies and fire safety standards.
Audit & Compliance Support: Actively participate in internal, client, and regulatory audits concerning fire protection and emergency preparedness.
Emergency Equipment Management and Inventory: Maintain an up-to-date inventory of fire and emergency response equipment.
Technology Integration: Collaborate with IT and engineering teams to implement or upgrade fire monitoring systems (e.g., fire alarms, gas detection, remote control systems).
Root Cause Analysis: Lead or support root cause analysis for fire-related near misses, incidents, or system failures to identify and implement corrective/preventive actions.
Sustainability & Environmental Protection: Ensure firefighting activities and chemical suppression systems comply with environmental regulations and sustainability goals.
Budgeting & Procurement Support: Provide technical input into budgeting, procurement, and tendering processes related to fire protection systems, training services, and equipment upgrades.
Key interactions
Internal: Collaborates with colleagues across departments including HSSE, Engineering, Operations, and Maintenance.
External: Liaises with government authorities (e.g., Civil Defense), contractors, and safety committees.
Notable Working Conditions. Field operations and office-based work, Moderate to intensive computer screen use & May require on-call availability for emergencies
Desired Candidate Profile
Experience: Engineer: 6 10 years of experience General Knowledge & Background: Experience in refinery, petrochemical, or petroleum industries Strong understanding of fire and emergency response standards and regulatory compliance
Knowledge in: Hazard and risk assessments NFPA standards, API guidelines, OSHA/OSHAS process safety, flammable materials behavior, fire dynamics Incident investigation and root cause analysis Behavior-based safety systems HSSE Management Systems HAZOP studies
Required Training and Certifications NFPA CFPS Certified Fire Protection Specialist API 752 API 753 Professional firefighting training (in English) with certification Advanced Firefighting Training Core Competencies & Skills
Soft Skills: Initiative-taking and sound judgment Commitment to safety, health, and environmental stewardship High integrity and ethical behavior Self-driven with minimal supervision Strong documentation and policy drafting skills Effective communicator and team collaborator
Technical Skills: Proficient in fire protection engineering concepts Familiar with international codes (NFPA, EN) Incident response and equipment inspection skills Emergency planning and crisis coordination
