Roles & Responsibilities

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Technical Designs

  • Develop engineering designs and technical production drawings in order to ensure availability of engineering designs for the execution of project works, in line with standards.
  • Prepare and assist in the review of drawings and documentation prior to issuing drawings for execution (including any sub-contracted design works and drawings).

Structural Design and Analysis

  • Produce structural analyses, perform calculations for basic structural scantlings and prepare structural modelling using engineering systems in order to develop structural and block drawings that are aligned with customer and project requirements, and ADC and industry standards.

Foundation Design

  • Responsible for the design and analysis of various structural foundations including equipment, machinery, and structural supports ensuring stability, load-bearing capacity, and compliance with applicable codes, standards, and project requirements. Designs shall accommodate all operational and environmental loads while aligning with industry best practices and client specifications.

Arrangement and Layout Drawings

  • Assist in the development of arrangement and layout drawings for shipboard machinery and piping, propulsion and other systems in order to ensure that machinery and systems are laid out in a manner that minimizes loss of space and maximizes effectiveness.

Outsourced Drawings

  • Support in the review of engineering drawings received from partner shipyards or design consultants in order to ensure that the outsourced deliverables comply with vessel specifications and project and customer requirements, and are in line with ADC standards.

Production Support

  • As and when required by the Team leader Design, assist production teams through providing technical support on design-related matters in order to support the completion of accurate structural, outfitting and related works, in line with the structural design and drawings.

Work Progress

  • As and when required, partake in ship checks for ships that are under repair, conversion or building in order to assist in controlling and tracking work progress and report contract deviations to the Assistant Manager Design for prompt action.

Documentation

  • Maintain accurate design data, documentation, drawings, handbooks and records in order to ensure availability for any future reference and meet stakeholder (project managers, customers etc.) needs, in line with applicable standards and procedures.

Engineering Standards and Regulations

  • Assist in the update of and adhere to design and engineering-related standards in order to ensure that activities are in line with requirements.

Continuous Improvement

  • Motivate subordinates and contribute to the identification of opportunities for the continuous improvement of systems, processes and practices taking into account leading practices, improvement of processes and productivity improvement.

Policies, Systems, Processes & Procedures

  • Implement approved design and engineering policies, processes, and procedures, provide instructions to subordinates and monitor their adherence so that work is carried out in a controlled manner.

Health, Safety, & Environment

  • Ensure compliance to all relevant health, safety and environmental management procedures and controls to guarantee employee safety, compliance, delivery of high quality products/services and a responsible environmental attitude.

Desired Candidate Profile

JOB PURPOSE:

  • Design Engineer shall have strong understanding of the general and detailed aspects of the job and their practical application to complex problems and situations. Develops processes that require innovation and ingenuity. Work to be performed under minimal supervision. Liaison with statutory authorities and vendors in order to ensure the overall project is executed as per Asyad Drydock yard standards/ Client requirements. Compliance to ADC Policy and HSSE requirements is mandatory

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor s Degree in naval architecture or an equivalent qualification from a reputable university

Minimum Experience:

  • 2 - 4 years of relevant naval architecture experience in the ship repair (priority) or ship building (second priority) industry

Job-Specific Knowledge & Skills:

  • Knowledge of ships (i.e. performance, stability, technical drawings, technical specifications, etc.)
  • Knowledge of international ship building standards.
  • Knowledge of applicable engineering principles (hydrostatics, hydrodynamics, propulsion, auxiliary systems)
  • Knowledge of Classification Society (Lloyds Register, Det Norske Veritas (DNV), American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) or Bureau Veritas (BV)) and other regulatory bodies (International Maritime Organization (IMO), International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) and International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (MARPOL))
  • Understanding of general drawings (steel structure, outfitting, piping and electrical drawings)
  • Knowledge of design applications (Auto Cad, Tribon, 3D Modeling etc.)
