Roles & Responsibilities
A CT Technologist plays a pivotal role in a healthcare setting by operating CT (Computed Tomography) equipment to assist in diagnosing diseases and injuries. This professional works collaboratively with radiologists and other healthcare practitioners, ensuring that high-quality diagnostic images are produced while maintaining patient safety and comfort. The role requires a mix of technical expertise, patient care skills, and the ability to work efficiently under potentially stressful conditions. CT Technologists are responsible for ensuring that CT scanning equipment is operated correctly, cleaned, and maintained according to strict standards. Their work is vital in the detailed visualization of internal organs, bones, soft tissues, and blood vessels, making it imperative for the technologist to ensure precise imaging procedures and accurate data handling. Additionally, CT Technologists need to have an in-depth understanding of radiation safety measures and the regulatory requirements guiding the use of imaging technology.
Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain CT scanning machinery with meticulous attention to detail.
- Prepare patients for imaging procedures, explaining the steps and addressing concerns.
- Administer contrast media monitoring patients for any adverse reactions.
- Ensure patient safety and comfort throughout the entire imaging process.
- Collaborate efficiently with other medical personnel to achieve optimal imaging results.
- Verify patient identification and required procedures to maintain accuracy and security.
- Adjust CT equipment settings to capture high-quality images as per diagnostic needs.
- Maintain clear and accurate records of imaging procedures and patient notes.
- Utilize computer systems to process and store diagnostic images securely.
- Implement radiation safety measures to reduce exposure risks to patients and staff.
- Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and coordinate maintenance as necessary.
- Participate in continuous professional development and stay updated with imaging technology advancements.
Requirements
- Associate or Bachelor s degree in Radiologic Technology or a related field.
- Certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in CT.
- A valid state license to practice as a CT Technologist where applicable.
- Strong understanding of radiation safety practices and patient care protocols.
- Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with patients and team members.
- Previous experience working in a hospital or clinic-based imaging department preferred.
- Comfortable working with advanced computer systems and digital imaging technology.
