Roles & Responsibilities

Position Title: Cost Control Engineer
Department: Projects / Commercial
Reporting To: Project Controls Manager / Commercial Manager
Location: Muscat, Oman


Role Purpose

The Cost Control Engineer will be responsible for monitoring, controlling, and forecasting project costs throughout the project lifecycle. The role demands strong exposure to cost control of large building projects, with additional background in planning and estimation. The candidate will ensure financial discipline, accurate reporting, and alignment with contractual and company objectives.


Key Responsibilities
Develop, implement, and maintain cost control systems, procedures, and reporting tools for projects.
Prepare project budgets, cash flow forecasts, and cost plans in coordination with planning and estimation teams.
Monitor and track actual project costs against approved budgets, identifying variances and corrective actions.
Review and validate cost-related data from site teams, subcontractors, and suppliers.
Generate periodic cost reports (weekly/monthly) for management and clients.
Analyze project variations/changes and prepare cost impact assessments.
Support the preparation of claims, EOT submissions, and commercial reports.
Coordinate closely with planning and QS teams to ensure cost and schedule alignment.
Conduct risk analysis on cost deviations and recommend mitigation strategies.
Ensure cost control practices comply with company policies, contracts, and international standards.


Qualifications & Skills
Bachelors degree in civil engineering / quantity surveying / construction management.
10+ years experience in cost control, predominantly in building projects (residential, commercial, or hospitality).
Proven exposure to planning and estimation in early career stages.
Strong knowledge of cost control systems, budgeting, and financial analysis.
Proficiency in Primavera P6, and ERP systems (Oracle/Focus/Equivalent).
Excellent command of MS Excel and financial reporting tools.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Knowledge of FIDIC contracts and international cost control practices (preferred).
